Bridie McCann led three players in double figures as the Chestnut Hill College women's Basketball team cruised to a 77-56 win over the University of Bridgeport Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins remain perfect in conference play with a 2-0 record in league. CHC also improves to 6-8 overall. The Purple Knights drop to 1-14 overall and 1-2 in league contests.

McCann sank six three point shots (on ten attempts) to lead all scorers with 18 points. Emily Sekerak recorded her first double double of the season with ten points and 11 rebounds while Avery White came off the bench to score 12 points (5-10 FG).Â
Sara Tamoun paced the Griffins, dishing out six assists on the afternoon. Caleigh Edwards added five.
The Griffins led the contest wire-to-wire, scoring with McCann starting the scoring with a three-point basket and Sekerak and Bri Rider adding field goals to take a 7-0 lead. Bridgeport pulled within three twice before the Griffins closed out the quarter with four three point field goals in the final 3:28, outscoring the Purple Knights 12-4 over the span to take a 24-12 lead. McCann started the run with her third three-ball of the quarter and Tamoun, Kaya Mobley and Edwards followed. Edwards score came as the buzzer was sounding to end the period.
Bridgeport cut the lead to single digits twice in the second quarter, the last at 26-17 with 6:06 left. CHC followed with an 8-0 uprising to lead 34-17 before settling in for a 14-point advantage at halftime, 37-23.
Tikyra Miller opened the third quarter with a jump shot in the paint before a 13-6 run from the Purple Knights again brought the lead down to single digits, 45-36. The Griffins closed out the quarter with another big run, 11-3, highlighted by a traditional three-point play from Tamoun and three balls from McCann and White to lead 58-43 heading into the final period.
The Griffins opened the final quarter with a 9-3 spurt with McCann hitting her final two three point baskets and giving CHC a 67-46 lead midway through the quarter. Bridgeport came no closer than 16 the rest of the way with the Griffins taking their biggest lead at 22 points (77-55) following back-to-back layups from Anaisah Malone and Angel Sanders in the final 90 seconds of the game.
Zahkiyyah Frazier led Bridgeport with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Shakira Hester also added 13 points.
The Griffins had their best shooting game since November 23rd against St. Thomas Aquinas (50% FG and 47.4% from three vs. the Spartans) as they connected on 30 of 63 shots from the field (47.6%) and made a season high ten three-point field goals (in 20 attempts – 50%). CHC held the Purple Knights to 36.1% shooting (22-61) and just 1-for-11 from beyond the arc. UB had a slight edge on the glass (39-37), but the Griffins turned in a nice assist/turnover ratio (23/15) with UB producing 17 turnovers on the afternoon.
The women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 8, 2024, when they host Holy Family University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
