Griffins Get Back on Winning Track with Victory over Lions

The Chestnut Hill College Women's volleyball team got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon, defeating Lincoln University 3-0 in a match played at Oxford Area High School in Oxford, Pa.

The Griffins improve to 4-10 overall while the Lions fall to 0-16. Chestnut Hill swept the match with scores of 25-18, 26-024 and 25-19.

Kate Hanley and Sadie Bayko led the team with seven kills apiece while Maya Hopson added six.  Hanley also led the team with a career-high seven aces. Ayla Mirarchi and Micah McKenzie had two aces apiece.  Sofia Rodriguez led all players with 22 assists.

Defensively, Rodriguez completed the double-double with 13 digs to go along with her game-high 22 assists.  Hanley added eight while Bayko chipped in seven. Caroline Croteau and McKenzie had five digs apiece.

Hanley had three aces early in the first set as the Griffins jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Two Hanley kills later pushed the lead to 13-6.  The Griffins increased the lead to 17-7 following a Mirarchi ace and a pair of attack errors from the Lions and another Hanley kill.  The Lions roared back to cut the lead in half, 18-14.  Mirarchi later served an ace for the set point.

The Griffins jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second but a 16-7 run from Lincoln gave the Lions a 20-18 lead  Kills from Hopson and Nicole Dimiris helped forge a 21-21 tie before the Lions pulled ahead forcing set point with a 24-22 lead.  Another kill from Hopson and a Lions attack error tied the set at 24-24.  Hanley then served two straight aces to give the Griffins a 26-24 win in the set and a 2-0 advantage in the match.

Chestnut Hill jumped out to an 8-1 lead early in the third set with Hanley and Sarah Allen each serving three straight points.  The CHC lead oscillated between five and seven points until a kill from Bayko, Hanley's seventh ace of the match and a kill from Lexi Demirovic put the Griffins ahead by double digits 17-7. The Lions got no closer than five the rest of the match as the Griffins closed out the contest with a 25-19 win in the set to complete the sweep.

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 when they travel to face Holy Family University in a key CACC South division contest.  Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
