Dolphins Hand Griffins Second Loss at the Tournament of Heroes

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team concluded their opening tournament with a 92-81 loss to host College of Staten Island at CSI Tournament of Heroes Saturday afternoon.

The Griffins fall to 0-02 on the season  The Dolphins improve to 2-0.

Alejandro Redondo Cybak scored 20 points (7-12, FG, 4-4 FT) to lead three Griffin players in double figures.  Cybak also recorded his first double-double of the season with ten rebounds.  Kamal Lee and Amari Dow had 19 and 13 points, respectively.

Dow and Malcolm Day added five rebounds apiece, and along with Cybak's ten boards accounted for 20 of the Griffins 29 total rebounds in the game.  Cybak also led the team with three assists.

The opening minutes of the game saw the Griffins score the first points of the contest with the Dolphins scoring two straight baskets to take an early lead.  The two teams battled for the first 12 minutes  with the Griffins still trailing but never by any more than six points. Camden Burns  three point basket with 7:55 left in the period tied the game at 16-16.   Over the next three minutes CSI went on a 14-4 tear, to open a double digit lead 30-20.  The Dolphins still led by nine with 3:22 left when they produced another 14-4 run to increase their lead to 19, 49-30 at the half.  The Dolphins outscored the Griffins 33-14 over the final 7:55 of the period to take control of the game.

The Dolphins increased their lead to as many as 23 points in the second half and still led by 20, 66-46 with 11:32 left when the Griffins started whittling away at the deficit.  Chestnut Hill cut the lead to 12, 80-68 with 2:04 left but could get no closer than ten  as time was running out.  CSI was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds as they sealed the 11-point win, 92-81.

For the game, the Dolphins shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field while the Griffins shot 43.3% (29-67)  Both teams made eight three point shots while CSI made 90.9% (20-22) of their free throws and the Griffins made 71.4% (15-21).  The Dolphins also held a slight edge in the rebounding category, 33-29.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Monday, November 17, 2025 when they travel to face East Stroudsburg University.  Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
