Wildcats Hand Griffins Their Second Consecutive Loss

Daemen University handed the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team their second consecutive loss, defeating the Griffins 77-54 at Lumsden Gymnasium in Amherst, New York Sunday afternoon.

The Griffins fall to 1-3 overall while the Wildcats improve to 3-1.

Tamia Washington was the lone Chestnut Hill player to reach double figures, scoring 13 points.  Sabria Mann and Anahita Jackson added eight points apiece while Tiayo Adelekan added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.  Sara Tamoun pulled down seven rebounds to join Adelekan among the team rebound leaders.

The Wildcats never trailed in the contest as they used a 7-1 run late in the first quarter to lead 15-7 with the Griffins cutting the deficit to six, 17-11, via an Adelekan free throw as time was about to expire.

A 7-2 run to open the second quarter increased the Wildcats lead to double figures 24-13.  Free throws from Tikyra Miller brought the deficit into single digits, before a 9-3 run by Daemen gave the hosts their biggest lead of the half 35-21 with under a minute left in the second quarter.

Adelekan scored Chestnut Hill's first two points of the third quarter, again cutting the Daemen lead to single digits, 35-26, but the Wildcats scored the next ten points to lead by 19, 45-26 with six minutes left and increased their lead to 22, 59-37 by quarter's end.

The Wildcats continued to hold a 20-point plus lead throughout the final period, increasing the margin to as many as 28 late in the game before the Griffins scored the final five points to make the final margin 77-54.

The Griffins again struggled with their shooting, making just 17 of 65 shot attempts (26.2%) from the field.  The Wildcats shot 43.5% (30-69) from the field and were 12-15 from the free throw line (80%).  Chestnut Hill made 14 of 22 free throws on the afternoon (63.6%).  Daemen also held a 53-27 rebounding advantage.
