A Dominant Second Half Propels Griffins to Win over Eagles in CACC opener

A dominant second half by the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team gave the Griffins a big win in their home and conference opener against Post University Tuesday afternoon at Sorgenti Arena, defeating the Eagles 78-57.

The Griffins improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Eagles fall to 0-3 overall and 0-12 in league play.

Sara Tamoun scored 18 of her game high 24 points in the second half, finishing the game with nine field goals, including a 5-for-9 effort from three point range.  The senior small forward also narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.

Kaya Mobley filled the stat sheet with a solid all-around performance, particularly on defense with five steals.  The senior guard also added seven assists, six rebounds and ten points.  Anaisah Malone chipped in 11 points (5-8 FG)

Tiayo Adelekan grabbed seven rebounds; Bryce Harvey-Carr dished out four assists and Anahita Jackson had four steals to rank among the Griffin leaders for the game.

Trailing by one at halftime 30-29, The Griffins took a quick lead on Adelekan's layup to open the second half.  Post added two straight baskets to go back up by three before the Griffins exploded with an 18-5 run to take a double digit lead 49-39 with 1:33 left in the third quarter. Tamoun had ten of the 18 points over the course of the run. Chestnut Hill also got three point baskets from Mobley and Tamia Washington and a layup from Sabria Mann. Four free throws by the Eagles cut the lead to single digits but Tamoun closed out the quarter with another three ball to give Chestnut Hill a 52-43 lead heading into the final ten minutes of action.

A 14-3 run to open the fourth quarter pushed the Griffins lead to 20 with 5:51 left.  Post would only get as close as 16 the rest of the way, with the Griffins opening up their biggest lead 78-54 in the final seconds.

Earlier in the first half, the Eagles held a nine point lead late un the first quarter and looked strong.  The Griffins however came alive with ten straight points over a 2:30 stretch that spanned into the second quarter to take their first lead of the game.  The lead changed seven more times over the course of the second quarter with neither team leading by more than three points and the Eagles ending the quarter with the one point lead which was short-lived with the Griffins offensive explosion in the second half.

For the game, the Griffins shot 41.9% from the field (31-74) and slightly better from beyond the arc, making 11 of 26 three-point shots (42.6%).  The eagles shot 34.8% (16-46) from the field and 37.5% (3-8) from three point range.  Chestnut Hill had a slight 44-41 rebounding advantage and took advantage of second chances, outscoring the Eagles 19-11 in the second chance points category.  The Griffins also took advantage of 27 Post turnovers, scoring 29 points while the Eagles scored 13 off 18 CHC miscues.

The women's basketball team returns to action with a non-conference contest vs. Shippensburg University on Monday, December 1, 2025 at Sorgenti Arena.  Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
