Tamia Washington led four players in double figures as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team won their second consecutive game, defeating Shippensburg University 89-76 Monday evening at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins evened their record at 3-3 with the win. Shippensburg fell to 1-4.
Washington led all scorers with 21 points, connecting on 4-6 three point shorts and adding seven more points from the free throw line. Sara Tamoun added 20 points (5-9 FG, 3-5 3FG, 7-9 FT) and a team-high six assists. Anahita Jackson contributed 17 points (6-12 FG, 3 3pt. FG) and a game-high six rebounds. Tikyra Miller rounded out the double figure scorers for the Griffins with ten points, eight of which came from the free throw line.
Four players also contributed five rebounds apiece, including Miller, Tiayo Adelekan, Kaya Mobley and Aryanna Sumpter. Washington also had five assists.
The first quarter saw the Raiders jump out to a 17-9 advantage only to have the Griffins come right back, closing out the quarter with an 8-2 run to pull within two 19-17. Washington started the run with a three pointer and Jackson ended it with a long three-ball at the buzzer. Anaisah Malone had a layup sandwiched in between the two three-pointers.
A wild second quarter followed with the Griffins connecting on seven of eight three point baskets starting with a Washington three-ball to extend the CHC run to 11-2 and take a 20-19 lead. Shippensburg countered with two straight three-pointers to go back up by five before Tamoun got into the action with her first three-pointer of the game. Tamoun went on two make two more in the quarter without a miss, the last one tying the game at 31-31.   The Raiders scored six straight points to lead 37-31 before the Griffins closed out the quarter on a 14-6 tear to lead by two at halftime 45-43.
An 8-2 run to open the third quarter pushed the Griffins lead to eight 53-45Â witg the team extending the lead into double figures on a Sumpter putback with 2:12 left, 60-49.
Washington opened the final quarter with a three-point basket at the 7:53 mark and Jackson followed with a short jumper in the paint to give Chestnut ?Hill their largest lead of the game 70-57 just three minutes into the final quarter. The Raiders cut the lead to six later in the period and were pushing for a comeback in the final three mniutes, scoring two straight baskets to close within seven 78-71 with 1:52 left. The Griffins, however, converted 11 of 13 free throws in the final minute of play to go back up by double figures and seal the 13-point win.
The Radiers finished the game making three more field goals (30-27) and producing a better shooting percentage 54.6% (30-56) than the /griffins who shot 47.4% (27-57). Chestnut Hill, however, dominated from beyond the arc, scoring 33 points off three-point baskets to SU's 12. The Griffins also doubled on the raiders on the free thorw line making 24 of 37 (64.9%) while the Raiders made 12 of 22 (54.5%). Chestnut Hill out-rebuonded Shippensburg 37-27 including a 14-7 advantage on the offensive glass, leading to a 22-6 advantyage in the second chance points category. The Griffins also commirtted four fewer turnovers (20-24).
The women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 when they travel to Wilmington, Delaware for their second conference game of the season, taking on Goldey-Beacom College. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
