Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Adelekan and Miller Power Griffins to Third Straight Win

Tiayo Adelekan recorded her third double-double of the season  and Tikyra Miller added 21 points as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team outlasted Goldey-Beacom College 81-73 to earn their third straight win Wednesday night at the Jones Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Griffins improve to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games.  The Lightning remain winless at 0-7 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Adelekan scored 14 of her 27 points in the second half, finishing the game making 10 of 14 shots from the field  and seven of 12 from the free throw line. The sophomore forward also grabbed ten rebounds.   Miller connected on eight of 12 shots from the field and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.   Anahita Jackson joined Adelekan and Miller in double figure scoring with ten points while also grabbing seven rebounds.  Kaya Mobley also had seven rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists.

The two teams exchanged the lead eight times over the first 12 minutes with neither team leading by more than three points.  The Lightning led by three 22-19 when the Griffins exploded with a 12-2 run to take control of the game.  Miller scored six of the 12 points with Jackson adding four and an Adelekan layup capped the run, giving the Griffins a 31-24 lead with 5:24 left.  GBC countered with a 7-2 run to pull within two 35-33 and still trailed by two 37-35 with 39 seconds left in the quarter before the Griffins scored five straight points before the buzzer to lead 42-35 at the half.

Sara Tamoun's basket two minutes into the third quarter made it eight straight points for the Griffins and gave the team a ten-point lead 45-35.  The Lightning however battled back with seven straight points to close within three 45-42.  A Tamoun layup and a three-ball from Jackson pushed the lead back to eight 50-42 midway through the quarter.  The Griffins maintained the lead for the remainder of the quarter with the margin fluctuating between three and eight points.  Miller hit a jumper at the buzzer to make the score 62-56 heading into the final period.

Both teams exchanged baskets early with the Griffins then pulling ahead by nine 69-60 following a Sabria Mann layup.   Chestnut Hill followed with a 10-4 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 79-64 after Tamoun connected on a three-pointer (her only 'three' of the game) midway through the final quarter. The Lightning followed with a 7-0 run to close within eight with 2:28 left but that would be as close as the Lightning would come as both teams scored once more in the final 1:17 to round out the scoring.

For the game, the Lightning shot slightly better from the field (48.2% to 43.2%) with the Griffins taking 18 more shots (74-56) and making five more field goals (32-27).  Both teams took 20 free throws with the Griffins making 15 and the Lightning 14.   The lightning also out-rebounded the Griffins 39-36 but the Griffins forced 21 turnovers and scored 30 points off the GBC miscues.  The griffins meanwhile limited their miscues to just ten on the night.

The women's basketball team will return to action on Friday, December 5, 2025 for a matinee game at Sorgenti Arena against Seton Hill University.  Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
