In a battle between two conference unbeatens, the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team dropped a hard fought decision to Holy Family University Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena, falling 74-64.
The Griffins fall to 2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games and 4-05 overall. The Tigers improve to 3-0 in league play and 6-2 overall.
Sara Tamoun was the only Griffins player in double figures, scoring a career-high 25 points. The senior small forward also filled the stat sheet with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. Anahita Jackson added four rebounds while Tikyra Miller dished out four assists and had two steals.
The Tigers led for most of the game and held a 19-point lead at halftime, 48-29 and expanded it to 23 heading into the final quarter.  The Tigers still held a 23 point lead when Tamoun's three-point basket with six minutes left triggered a run that saw the Griffins cut the lead to single digits  with 2:16 left, The run, an 18-4 uprising over a 3:45 span, brought the score to 73-64 and was fueled by six points from Tamia Washington, three-pointers from Tamoun and Kaya Mobley, a pair of layups from Ayrianna Sumpter and some key free throw shooting over the stretch. (6-6). Holy Family added their final point with just under a minute left to round out the scoring.
Kaelah Carter led the Tigers with 23 points, scoring 18 in the first half while the Griffins limited her to just five points in the second half, and none in the fourth quarter.
For the game, the Tigers outshot the Griffins 43.8% (28-64) to 38.7% (24-62) and made three more three-point baskets. Holy Family dominated the glass however, outrebounding the Griffins 49-29, including a 20-11 advantage on the offensive glass, leading to a 21-12 advantage in second chance points. Chestnut Hill did force 18 turnovers to their 12 and outscored the Tigers 19-12 in the points off turnovers category.
The women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 13, 2025 when they host Dominican University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
