The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team is taking a break from conference play this week as they traveled to face Division I Drexel University on Tuesday, falling to the Dragons 95-38 at the Daskalakis Center in University City.
The Griffins fall to 5-6 while the dragons improve to 7-3
The game marked the first time the Griffins and Dragons have faced each other on the hardwood in nearly 50 years, having last played each other during the 1976-77 season, a game Chestnut Hill won 43-38. The Dragons last win against Drexel was the season before, 53-43. The two teams played each other a total of 26 times between 1944-45 and 1976-77 with the Griffins winning 11 times.
Ayrianna Sumpter led the Griffins with nine points and five rebounds. Kourin Carew also had five rebounds.  Sabria Mann added seven points and a game-high five steals. Anahita Jackson finished the game with six points while Sara Tamoun had five and a team high two assists. Kaya Mobley also had two assists on the afternoon. JoJo Mills led the team with two blocked shots.Â
The Griffins struggled offensively in the first quarter, making just two field goals, a jumper from Mann and a three-point basket from Jackson. The Dragons meanwhile shot 52% and jumped out to a 26-7 lead.
The Dragons increased their lead in each of the remaining three quarters, leading 50-21 at halftime and 74-38 after three quarters.
Amaris Baker and Iriona Gravely led the Dragons with 26 and 23 points respectively.
The women's basketball team will return to action on Thursday for their final game before breaking for the Christmas holiday. They will host the University of the District of Columbia on Thursday at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
