Dominant Second Half Leads to a Decisive Win over Tigers

Amari Dow and Alejandro Redondo Cybak combined for 39 points as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team overcame an early eight point first half deficit, outscoring Holy Family University by 27 points over the final 27 minutes of play to defeat the Tigers 68-52 Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins improve to 2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games and 3-6 overall.  The Tigers fall to 0-4 in league play and 4-4 overall. The win was the Griffins' tenth straight over the Tigers dating back to the 2018-19 season.

Dow turned in a very efficient performance on the court, connecting on 10 of 14 shots from the field with two three-point baskets en route to his game high 22 points.  Cybak also had an efficient evening, making seven of ten shots from the field while also burying two second half three-pointers for 17 points.  The senior center also grabbed 12 rebounds, had three blocks, two steals and dished out three assists.

Kamal Lee led all players with seven assists while Malcolm Day recorded four steals.

Trailing by three at halftime after closing out the period on a 12-7 run to cut the Tigers early 19-11 lead to three 26-23, the Griffins exploded in the second half, scoring 45 points.  Chestnut Hill battled early in the second half and tied the score at 38-38 before producing a 16-3 run to take a double-digit lead 54-41 with 7:41 left. Dow had six of the 16 points in the run while Lee added a three-point basket and Jeremiah Gorham contributed a traditional three-point play. 

Meanwhile the Chestnut Hill defense held the Tigers without a field goal over the course of the six-plus minutes of the run with Tigers scoring just three points on free throws (3-8).  The Tigers finally had a field goal at the 6:36 mark (a three-ball from Matt Gardler) to cut the lead to ten 54-44 before the Griffins added a 13-2 run to take their biggest lead at 67-46 with 3:16 left. The Tigers scored six of the final seven points close out the game as the Griffins settled in for the 16-point win.

For the game, the Griffins shot 53.2% from the field (25-47) while holding the Tigers to just 34.6% shooting (18-52) on the night.  The Griffins also took advantage of 19 HFU turnovers, scoring 25 points. (HFU scored 13 points of 18 CHC miscues).  Holy Family did outrebound the Griffins 33-29.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 13, 2025, when they host Dominican University at Sorgenti Arena.  Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
