Five players on the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team reached double figure scoring but it was not enough as Felician University dominated the middle quarters as they upset the Griffins 79-68 Saturday afternoon in Rutherford, New Jersey.
Chestnut Hill falls to 11-11 overall and 7-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Felician improves to 8-13 overall and 3-6 in league play.
Avery White led the five Griffin players in double figures with 19 points  Tikyra Miller added 13 points while Bridie McCann and Caleigh Edwards had 12 points apiece. Sara Tamoun rounded out the five double figure scorers with ten points.
Miller, Tamoun, Bri Rider and Emily Sekerak led Chestnut Hill with four rebounds apiece while Tamoun paced the Griffins with five steals. Â Edwards and McCann had three steals apiece.
An early three point CHC lead turned into a four point deficit as Felician used a 9-2 run to close of the first quarter to take a 14-10 lead.
The middle quarters belonged to the Golden Falcons as they outscored the Griffins 46-29 to take a 60-39 lead into the final quarter. Felician used a 15-0 run in the second quarter to turn a two point lead into a 17-point lead and the Griffins were never able to bring the deficit down to single digits the rest of the way.
Felician extended their lead to 27 points early in the fourth quarter, 66-39 before the Griffins started to chip away. A 13-6 run fueled by Edwards (8 points) trimmed the lead to 20, 72-52 with 4:55 left. The Griffins then added a 14-5 run to pull within 11,77-66 with 1:45 left. White contributed nine points during the run. Both teams scored just two points apiece the rest of the way as the Griffins would get no closer, falling 79-68.
The teams took 56 shots apiece but the Griffins struggled to find the bottom of the net, making just 19 (33.9%) while the Golden Falcons made 31 (55.4%). Both squads made five three point baskets while the Griffins outscored the Golden falcons 25-12 on the free throw line. Felician outrebounded Chestnut Hill 40-29 while both teams struggled to control the ball, committing a combined 57 turnovers (CHC-26, Felician-31).
The women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, when they travel to take on Holy Family University in NE Philadelphia. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
