Griffins Win Third Straight, Defeating Ravens, 9-4

Seven different players drove in runs as the Chestnut Hil College baseball team won their third game in a row, defeating regionally ranked Franklin Pierce University 9-4 in their final game at the Northeast Challenge in Myrtle Beach, south Carolina.

The Griffins improve to 3-1 overall with the win.  The Ravens, ranked 5th in the NCBWA Pre-Season East Region poll,drop to 4-4.

Dylan Broderick pitched 5.1 innings in relief , allowing one unearned run to earn his first win of the season.  Broderick also struck out two. Colby Seelig came in a got the final four outs to earn the save.

Justin Geiger had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in a run.   Shawn Levan had two hits, two stolen bases and drove in two runs.  Aiden Myers also had two hits including a double. 

The Ravens scored first in the bottom half of the second before the Griffins took the lead with two runs in the third.  Phoenix Bowman doubled  and scored on Michael Pascoe's triple.  Pascoe came home on a sacrifice fly by Jason Kelly to give Chestnut Hill a 2-1 lead.

Franklin Pierce scored twice in the bottom half of the third to retake the lead 3-2 before Dan Ciotti's RBI groundout in the sixth tied the game again at 3-3.

Geiger's one out double scored Myers who doubled to lead off the inning with the go-ahead run.  Two batters later, Levan delivered as bases loaded single to score two more runs.  Ryan McNichol brought home the fourth run of the inning with an infield groundout, giving the Griffins a 7-3 lead.

The Griffins entered the last inning leading 7-4 and added two more insurance runs in the ninth.  Geiger scored on an infield error and Levan scored on Bowman's sacrifice fly to round out the scoring.

The baseball team returns to action for their home opener, taking on the College of Staten Island  in a doubleheader at Hostelley field on March 1, 2025.  First pitch is at noon.
