Griffins Fall to Spartans in Season Opener

The Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team opened their 2025 season Friday afternoon with an 18-12 loss at Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York.

Molly Killion led the Griffins with five goals and an assist while Nicole George added four goals.  Kendall Gayton scored three goals and assisted on three others.

Gayton led the team with seven ground balls while Killion added six. Elizabeth Deal and Anna Sanverdine had five apiece. Abby Galazka led all players with three caused turnovers.

Lyikiea Anderson made eight saves in net for the Griffins.

Killion staked the Griffins to a 1-0 lead just 33 seconds into the game.  The Spartans followed with three straight scores before Gayton on George scored 32 seconds apart  to tie the game at 3-3 with 6:48 left in the period.

STAC opened the second quarter with three straight goals before Killion notched her second of the game at the 8:50 mark of the second quarter.  Two more spartan goals put the hosts ahead 8-4 before George tallied two scores in the final 2:16 to make the score 8-6 at halftime.  Gayton assisted on both goals.

The George-Gayton combination struck again early in the third quarter as the Griffins notched their seventh score of the game and trailed 10-7 with 11:19 left in the quarter. STAC followed with four more goals to lead 14-7 before Killion scored two in row to cut the lead to 14-9.  The second goal at the 1:19 mark was assisted by Allyson Smith and was a man-up score.

Two spartan goals started the fourth quarter scoring, giving the hosts a 16-9 lead.  Gayton followed with a pair of man-up goals 46 seconds apart to close the gap to 16-11 with 7:32 left.  Deal assisted on the first of Gayton two fourth quarter scores.   Killion scored her fifth goal of the game with 6:41 left to make the score 17-12 before the Spartans scored one last time with 1:07 left.

Ella Entress and Katelyn Cerrato had six goals apiece to pace the Spartans.  Hailey Galison added four scores and eight ground balls.

The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, when they host Post University at Victory Field.  First draw is at 7:00 p.m.
