The Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team opened conference play Wednesday night, earning their first win of the season with a decisive 6-1 victory over Post University at Victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins improve to 1-1 with the win and 1-0 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. The Eagles fall to 0-1 overall and in league play.
Molly Killion led the Griffins with three goals while Kendall Gayton added two goals and two assists. Nicole George scored Chestnut Hill's remaining goal. Abby Galazka led all players with six ground balls while Anna Sanverdine and Elizabeth Deal had three caused turnovers apiece. Killion won five draw controls.
Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Erin McCarthy was solid in net, making ten saves in her collegiate debut and allowing just one goal.
The one goal allowed by McCarthy was the first goal of the game, scored by Post's Anna D'Angelo off a free position shot  with 9:47 left in the first quarter. The Griffins followed with six straight goals to earn the win.
Gayton evened the score at 1-1just 2:35 later with a free position goal and put the Griffins ahead 2-1 with eight seconds left in the opening quarter with another free position goal.
Killion added her first goal of the game at the 10:34 mark, driving down the middle for an unassisted tally and a 3-1 CHC lead. George made the score 4-1 with a goal at the 8:02 mark with an assist from Gayton.
Killion's second goal of the game came with the Griffins playing a man down. The graduate attacker caused a turnover near midfield and picked up the ground ball before racing to the net and putting a shot past Eagles goalkeeper Lauren Bain, giving the Griffins a 5-1 lead. Killion completed the hat trick with 1:11 left in the second quarter, taking a pass from Gayton to make the score 6-1.
Neither team scored in the second half of play as defense took over. McCarthy saved all five shots on goal in the final 30 minutes and the Griffins caused five turnovers with the Eagles adding seven more unforced errors. Eagles goalkeeper Bain made two saves in the second half and finished the game with 11.
The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 15, 2025, with a home contest against Arcadia University. First draw is at 10:00 a.m.
