Griffins Win Fourth Straight, Defeat Tigers, 72-65

Alejandro Redondo Cybak recorded a double-double and led three players in double figures as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team won their fourth straight game, defeating Holy Family University, 72-65 Wednesday night at HFU's Campus Center in northeast Philadelphia.

The Griffins improve to 7-4 in central Atlantic Collegiate conference games and move into sole possession of first place in the CACC South Division with the win. Overall, Chestnut Hill is now 11-10.  The Tigers  drop to 6-17 overall and 0-11 in league play.  The win was also Chestnut Hill's tenth straight against the  tigers as they complete the regular season sweep.

Cybak tallied 16 points (7-13 FG) while grabbing 13 rebounds to record his sixth double-double of the season and his third in the last five games.  He also added a game-high four blocks. IV Pettit added 15 points while Kamal Lee came off the bench to score 12.

Neal Hill led all players with 14 rebounds, his 12th consecutive game of grabbing at least ten boards.  He also led the team with  four assists and three steals.  Noah Charles added eight rebounds to go along with his eight points.

Deadlocked at 32-all at halftime, the Tigers jumped out to a four point lead, 39-35 early in the second half with a 7-3 run over the first 2:49 before Chestnut Hill countered with a 10-3 spurt hold a 45-42 lead at the 10:48 mark. Holy Family rallied to tie the score four times over the next six minutes, the last at 57-57 with 4:35 left but never regained the lead.  Chestnut Hill  followed that final tie with a 7-1 spurt to lead by six 64-58 with 1:23 left with Lee's three-ball breaking the tie.  Hill followed with his only basket of the game and Cybak capped the run with a pair of free throws.  The Griffins closed out the game, making eight of ten free throws, taking a nine point lead with under a minute left. Holy Family connected on two three-point baskets in the final 40 seconds to pull within four 69-65 before Lee and Charles sealed the deal with free throws.

Holy Family held an early four point lead but a 20-8 run, but the Griffins went up by eight, 21-13 with 9:35 left in the half.  The Tigers followed with a 12-4 spurt to tie the game at 25-25 with 3:18 left.  Donald James-Imo then scored five of the Griffins' final seven points as both teams battled to a 32-32 tie at halftime.

Najee Coursey led the Tigers with 19 points and eight rebounds.  Ryan Holmes added 13 points while Josiah King chipped in ten.

For the game, the Griffins shot 41.1% (23-56) from the field while holding the Tigers to a 31.3% effort (20-64).  Both team made five three-point baskets apiece and CHC made one more free throw (21-33, 63.6%) than holy Family (20-25, 80%).  CHC outrebounded Holy Family, 49-40.

The men's basketball team returns to action when they face Dominican University, the first place team in the CACC North Division on Saturday, February 8, 2025.  Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
