Aiden Myers' two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 4-4 tie and 4 win over Kutztown University Tuesday afternoon at Hostelley Field in North Wales, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins improve to 5-6 with the win while the Bears fall to 5-7. The win also snapped Chestnut Hill's six game losing streak against Kutztown and evened the all time series at eight wins apiece.
Myers' home run was the second of two hit by the griffins on the afternoon with the first coming in the first inning, a two-run shot off the bat of Michael Pascoe. Myers finished the game with three hits while Jason Kelly and Justin Geiger had two hits apiece.
Pascoe earned his first win of the season, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four over seven innings of work. Colby Seelig pitched the final two innings, recording six straight outs with two strikeouts for his second save of the season.
The Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Pascoe tied the game with his two-run blast over the right field fence, scoring Myers, who reached on a single, ahead of him.
Kutztown added a solo run in the second inning on Cam Burr's home run to take a 3-2 lead. Geiger tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, scoring Kelly. Kelly had doubled to right field and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring.
The score remained 3-3 until KU's Michael Burns launched his second sac fly of the game to give the visitors a 4-3 lead in the top half of the fifth inning.  In the bottom of the fifth, Alexander Fascia brought home the tying run, reaching on a fielder's choice as Dylan Broderick, who led off the inning with a double scored. Following a Phoenix Bowman two-out single, Myers took the first pitch he faced  off Jeremy Fallon and parked it over the left field fence for a 6-4 Griffins lead.
Chestnut Hill tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth as Shawn Levan singled home Geiger to make the score 7-4. Seelig then retired Kutztown in order in the ninth to preserve the win and earn the save.
Fallon (0-1) took the loss in relief for the Bears.
The baseball team returns to action on Friday, March 14 as conference play begins. The Griffins will host holy Family University at Hostelley field for a doubleheader. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.  This doubleheader was originally scheduled for Sunday at Hostelley field but was moved up due to impending weather conditions.
