Griffins Open Conference Play with Win over Golden Falcons

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team opened conference play Saturday afternoon with a 9-7 win over Felician University  at victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The Griffins snap a three game losing streak with the win and improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in central Atlantic collegiate conference games.  The Golden Falcons fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in league play.  The win was also the Griffins sixth straight against the Golden Falcons against zero losses in the all-time series.

Brady DeRome scored his first two collegiate goals while Mick Kilgallon added two goals of his own to go along with three assists. Jake Ballerini had a goal and two assists while Sam Slater and Billy Power each had a goal and assist respectively.  Will Duddy and Paul Katko-Capozzi rounded out the goal scorers for the Griffins.

Sam Koehler led the team with four ground balls while Jonathan Bartolomei and Evan Farlow had two caused turnovers apiece.  Adam Daley had six saves in goal.

Felician struck first as Jayden Rios won the opening  faceoff and took the ball down to score just 40 seconds into the game.  The Griffins struck back with two straight goals to reclaim the lead 2-1.  Kilgallon  had an unassisted goal at the 10:12 mark and Derome added his first collegiate goal at the 8:38 mark with Jayden Basalatan getting assist.

Rios tied the game 50 seconds later before Power put the Griffins ahead again with 2:13 left in the quarter with Kilgallon getting the assist.  Rios added his third score at the 13:09 mark of the second quarter to knot the score at 3-3.

Chestnut Hill scored twice more before halftime to take a 5-3 as Jake Ballerini and Katko-Capozzi scored back-to-back.  Slater and Power recorded assists on the two scores.

Slater took a pass from Kilgallon  and made the score 6-3 with a goal at the 13:09 mark of the third quarter. Felician then scored three straight scores to close out the third quarter, tying the score at 6-6 heading into the final quarter.

Duddy gave the Griffins a 7-6 lead at the 12:41 mark of the final period while Kilgallon notched his second goal of the game at the 5:39 mark.  Ballerini assisted on both goals.  Another goal from Rios (his fourth) brough the golden Falcons within one 8-7 with 4:43 left before DeRome added an insurance goal with 2:03 left.  Kilgallon recorded his third assist of the game on CHC's final goal.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on  Saturday, March 22, 2025, when they travel to face Dominican university in Orangeburg, New York.  First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
