The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team won their second consecutive conference game Saturday afternoon, defeating Dominican university 14-5 at O'Brien field in Orangeburg, New York.
The Griffins even their record at 3-3 overall and improve to 2-0 in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games. The Chargers fall to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in league contests.
Jayden Basalatan scored a career high five goals while Mick Kilgallon added four scores and an assist for five points. Sam Slater added two goals.Â
Carter Getz led the Griffins with seven ground balls, winning 11 of 22 faceoffs. Basalatan and Jonathan Bartolomei added five ground balls apiece. Thomas Gallagher had three caused turnovers. Adam Daley notched 16 saves in goal for the Griffins.
The Griffins led this one wire-to-wire scoring four first period goals to take a 4-0 lead. Basalatan scored his first goal of the game at the 8:53 mark with Paul Katko-Capozzi getting the assist. Slater followed with a pair of man-up goals with Noah Hammon and Jake Ballerini earning assists. Will Duddy added an unassisted score to give the Griffins a 4-0 lead.
The Chargers roared back with four straight goals to tie the game before Basalatan notched his second goal with 6:26 left in the half to give CHC a 5-4 lead. Kilgallon took a pass from Bartolomei and found the back of the net with seven seconds left in the half to give the Griffins to make the score 6-4 at halftime.
Chestnut Hill scored four unanswered goals in the third period, two by Kilgallon and two from Basalatan, all unassisted. Kilgallon's goal at the 7:21 mark was a man-up score.
Now leading 10-4 heading into the final period, the Griffins scored the first four goals of the fourth period, extending their lead to 14-4 with ten straight scores. Four different Griffins scored in the final period. Kilgallon had the first goal with Hammon getting the assist at the 13:22 mark. He assisted on Ballerini's goal with 11:37 left. Basalatan scored his fifth and final goal of the day, an unassisted tally with 8:25 left. Katko-Capozzi rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 3:37 left.Â
The Chargers added one final goal ten seconds later, off the faceoff to make the final score 14-5.
The men's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, March 29, 2025, when they host Holy Family University at Victory Field. The team will hold senior day ceremonies and a remembrance for Billy DiMaio who lost his life in the New Orleans terror attack in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.  Scheduled game time is 3:00 p.m.
