The Chestnut Hill College Baseball Team split their two game series with Dominican University Thursday afternoon, losing the opener 12-4 before defeating the Chargers 4-2 in the second game at Heritage Financial Field in Wappinger Falls, New York.
The Griffins improve to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Chargers are now 9-7 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Jason Kelly tossed five innings of two-run ball to earn the win in game two. Nick Shiffler had two hits and drove in the Griffins' second run with a sacrifice fly. Kelly, Phoenix Bowman and Justin Geiger also drove in runs.
The Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Griffins tied the score with a run in the second and another in the fourth. Bowman's infield groundout scored Geiger with the first run and Shiffler's sacrifice fly in the fourth tied the game.
Geiger's one-out double in the sixth scored Michael Pascoe with the go-ahead run and Kelly drove in an insurance run with a single to score Aiden Myers in the seventh to make the score 4-2.
Colby Seelig pitched the final two innings to earn his fourth save of the season.
Geiger, Bowman and Kenyon Motley had two hits apiece in the opener. Pascoe took the loss, tossing four innings and giving up five run on seven hits.
Dominican also jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opener and expanded it to 5-2 in the fourth on back-to-back home runs and an infield throwing error. A two run home by the Chargers in the sixth inning increased their lead to11-2.
Michael Benedetto III brought home the Griffins' third run with a single in the top half of the seventh but the Chargers struck for four more runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of two Griffin errors to lead 11-3. Geiger singled to score Kelly in the eighth for the griffins final run and the Chargers added one more run in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 12-4.
The baseball team returns to action on Saturday, March 2, 2025, when they host Wilmington University for the first two games of their four game series. First pitch at Hostelley field is set for 12:00 p.m.
