The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team completed their four-game series with Wilmington University with a doubleheader at Wilmington's Wilson Field Sunday dropping both games to the Wildcats, 11-5 and 8-7.
The two losses drop the Griffins record to 10-11 overall and 5-5 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. The Wildcats improve to 13-8 overall and 5-1 in league play.
Michael Benedetto II banged out three hits and drove in two runs in the opener while Phoenix Bowman added two hits. Rich Bonino (1-3) took the loss, tossing six innings while allowing seven runs (six earned) and ten hits .
Bowman and Kenyon Motley singled in the second inning before Benedetto delivered a triple down the right field line to bring home the two runners and give the Griffins a 2-0 lead. Dylan Broderick's RBI single in the third inning scored Justin Geiger to increase their lead to 3-0.
The Wildcats rallied to tie the game in the bottom half of the third inning and had the bases loaded before Bonino induced a flyout to end the inning.
Michael Pascoe delivered a one-out double in the fourth inning to score Benedetto and two batters later Geiger singled home Pascoe to give the Griffins a 5-3 lead.
Wilmington scored in each of the next five innings to pull away with the win. Tying the score at 5-5 in the fifth, the Wildcats scored two more in the sixth to go ahead for good 7-5 . Wilmington then scored once in the seventh and added three more in the eighth to round out the scoring.
Motley, Pascoe and Nick Shiffler had two hits apiece in game two staking the Griffins to a7-5 lead heading into the Wildcats final at-bat. Wilmington scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a walkoff 8-7 win. Colby Seelig took the loss to fall to 2-2.
As they did in the first game, the Griffins put two runs on the board in the first inning. Motley scored on a failed pickoff attempt at first that resulted in an error and Shiffler singled to score Aiden Myers with the second run.
Wilmington got one run back, scoring on a wild pitch in the second inning. Shiffler drove in his second run of the game in the third with a single to score Motley to make the score 3-1. Wilmington's Tyler Pirrung blasted a three-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to put the wildcats on top 4-3.Â
Pascoe scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4Â but the wildcats went back on top 5-4 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the top half of the sixth the Griffins scored three-times to take a 7-5 lead. Motley's infield groundout scored bowman with the tying run and two batters later Pascoe singled to score Daniel ciotti to give the Griffins a 6-5 lead. Jason Kelly later singled to score Pascoe and make the score 7-5.
In the Wildcats final at-bat Seelig loaded the bases with nobody out. Pirrung flied out to bring home a run and a fielder's choice brought home the tying run with two out. Jose Armando Diaz ended the game with a single to give the Wildcats an 8-7 win.
The baseball team returns to action on Wednesday March 26, 2025, when the Griffins host Post University in a CACC doubleheader  at Hostelley field. First pitch is set for noon.
