The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team faced defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Post University in a rare midweek conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles swept the two game series, 14-3 and 5-4 at Hostelley Field in North Wales, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins fall to 10-13 overall and 5-7 in CACC games. The Eagles improve to 10-0 in league play and 11-8 overall.
Six different players recorded a hit for Chestnut Hill in the opener with leadoff hitter Kenyon Motley recording the only extra base-hit, a triple to lead off the sixth inning to go along with his first inning single. Aiden Myers and Wyatt Spinks drove in runs for the Griffins.
Jason Kelly took the loss, allowing eight runs (just three earned) on eight hits while striking out three in four innings of work.
Post scored a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly but the Griffins tied the game when Motley, who singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch, scored when he tried to steal third and the Eagles' catcher threw the ball past Post's third baseman allowing Motley to safely score.
The Eagles added solo runs in the second and third before taking advantage of two Griffin errors in the four that led to five runs to give the visitors an 8-1 lead.
Myers' sacrifice fly in the sixth inning closed the gap to 8-2 before Post exploded for six more runs in the seventh to lead 14-2. Needing to score at least three runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend play and avoid the game ending via the 10-run rule,  The Griffins got singles by Alex Fascia, Bobby Sabatino and Dylan Broderick loaded the bases. Spinks came up and was hit by a pitch to score Fascia. The Eagles then got a force out at home off the bat of Motley and Myers flied out to end the game with the final score 14-3.
In game two the Griffins battled back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the score before a seventh inning home run from Post's Justin Rivera gave Post a 5-4 lead they would not relinquish.
Phoenix Bowman had three hits and scored twice while Spinks blasted as pair of doubles are scored Chestnut Hill's other two runs. Colby Seelig took the loss, giving up just the seventh inning home run.
The Eagles start to game two was similar to the first game, scoring a first inning run on a sacrifice fly. Post scored twice in the second via Harby Valera's two-run home run and added another run in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
Bowman and Spinks hit back to back doubles with one out to produce the Griffins' first run. Three batter later Michael Pascoe singled to plate Spinks to cut Post's lead in half 4-2.
The Bowman-Spinks combination struck again in the sixth inning as Bowman singled and Spinks followed with his second double of the game, this one down the left field line as bowman advanced to third. Motley followed with a single scoring Bowman  and  Spinks followed, scoring the tying run as the Eagles right fielder misplayed the ball.
Rivera led off the seventh with a solo home run over the left center field fence before Seelig got out of the inning. In the Griffins final at bat Michael Melosky singled with two outs before Post pitcher CJ Fisher retired Shawn Levan to end the game.
The baseball team returns to action with a doubleheader at Felician University on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. Â
