The Chestnut Hill College baseball team lost twice on the final day of the Wilson Tobs College Classic on Saturday, dropping their first game to Cedarville university 6-5 before losing to Glenville State 15-5.
The Griffins fall to 4-6 with the two losses.
The Griffins banged out 11 hits in the opener, with Michael Benedetto III getting four, including a double, and Aiden Myers hitting three. Jake Schweiker picked up the loss, pitching five innings while allowing five rubs of five hits and striking out 11.
The Yellow Jackets struck for three runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to take a 5-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the fourth.
Jason Kelly walked to lead off the inning and moved to third base on Benedetto's single. Dylan Broderick then launched a sacrifice fly to left field to score Kelly , cutting CU's lead to 5-1.
In the top of the sixth, Benedetto scored on a throwing error after stealing third as part of a double steal with Broderick who walked following Benedetto's two-out single. Â Cedarville got the run back in the bottom of the sixth to lead 6-2.
Justin Geiger had a two out single in the eight and scored on Benedetto's double to make the score 6-3. In their final at bat, Kenyon Motley led off with a single, stole second and scored on Myers' two-out single. Michael Pascoe walked and Kelly followed with a single to score Myers, pulling the Griffins within one, 6-5. Geiger was retired (by CU pitcher Jordan Geiger – no relation) to end the game.
Justin Wagoner (1-2) earned the win for the Yellow Jackets while Jordan Geiger earned the save. Eli Henderson had three hits and two RBI's  while Grayson Weikel hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
In game two Glenville State exploded for nine runs in the fifth inning, breaking a scoreless tie en route to a 15-5Â victory.
Eight different Griffins had at least one hit in the game with Alexander Facsia and Nick Shiffler recording doubles. Kelly took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings giving up seven runs while striking out eight.
The Pioneers sent 14 batters to the plate in the top half of the fifth inning, recording just three hits while scoring nine runs. Chestnut Hill scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth, when Myers, who reached on a walk, scored when Geiger hit into a fielder's choice.
Glenville State scored once more in the sixth, three more times in the seven and twice in the eighth inning to increase their lead to 15-1. Chestnut Hill scored four times in their final at-bat to make the final score 15-5.  Pascoe singled to start the inning and came around to score on Fascia's double. A sacrifice fly by Christian Peluso brought home William Brennan who walked following Pascoe's hit. Shiffler doubled to score Fascia and Wyatt Spinks singled to score Shiffler with the Griffins' final run.
The baseball team will return to action on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, when they host Kutztown University in a single game at Hostelley Field. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
