Wildcats Hand Griffins Their Second Conference Loss of Season

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team lost as conference game for just the second time this season as Wilmington University handed the Griffins a 12-10 loss Wednesday night at Victory field in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins fall to 6-5 overall on the season and 5-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  Wilmington improves to 6-0 in league contests and 8-3 overall.

Mick Kilgallon and Noah Hammon led the Griffins with three goals apiece while Hammon assisted on three others for a total of six points.  Kilgallon finished with one assist to go along with his three goals.

Jake Ballerini and Sam Slater had two goals and an assist apiece. Kilgallon led the team with seven ground balls.  Adam Daley had 13 saves in goal from Chestnut Hill.

Slater gave the Griffins an early 1-0 lead with goal at the 11:35 mark of the first quarter with Hammon getting the assist on the play.   The Wildcats responded with three straight goals to lead 3-1 before Hammon took a pass from Will Duddy and put a shot past the Wildcat goalkeeper to make the score 3-2 with 2:40 left in the opening quarter.

Hammon added a score with seven seconds left and scored again at the 13:50 mark of the second quarter to tie the game at 4-4.  Wilmington forged ahead 5-4 before Kilgallon tied the game again at 5-5 with an unassisted goal with 7:03 left in the second half.  Wilmington closed out the quarter with three consecutive goals, to lead 8-5 at halftime.

The Wildcats took a four-goal lead to open the third quarter scoring before Chestnut Hill rallied with two straight scores, the first from Kilgallon and then a man-up goal from Ballerini to pull within two 9-7.

Wilmington scored two straight goals in the opening two minutes of the final period to take their biggest lead at 12-7 before the Griffins closed out the scoring with three straight scores.

Kilgallon scored his third goal of the game with 8:59 left with Slater getting the assist.  Slater followed with a goal with 6:18 left as Hammon got the assist on the play.  Ballerini netted the Griffins final score with 32 seconds remaining.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, for their final regular season game, hosting Post University at victory field.  First Faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
