Griffins Earn First Round Playoff Bye with Win over Eagles in Regular Season Finale

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team closed out their regular season Wednesday night with a 10-9 win over Post University at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.

The win by the Griffins enabled the team to clinch the third seed for the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference  Championship Tournament and a first round bye.  Chestnut Hill finishes the regular season with a 7-5 record overall and 6-2 record in CACC games.  Post finishes with an 8-6 record and a -3 mark in league play.

Mick Kilgallon led the Griffins with three goals while adding an assist for four points.  Sam Slater and Noah Hammon also finished with four points apiece recording two goals and two assists, respectively. Jayden Basalatan had a goal and an assist.

Evan Farlow led Chestnut Hill with four ground balls while a quartet of Griffins (Adam Daley, Sam Koehler, Jonathan Bartolomei and Silas Charles) had three ground balls apiece.  Koehler led the team with four caused turnovers.  Carter Getz won 12 faceoffs on the night while Daley recorded eight saves in net for Chestnut Hill.

Post jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first period and increased the margin to three goals, 5-2, five minutes into the second quarter. Hammon then scored both his goals, just 64 seconds apart, with Slater and Kilgallon assisting on them to pull the Griffins within one 5-4 with 6:33 left in the quarter.  Post added a goal at the 3:02 mark and Kilgallon scored with 54 seconds left to put the score at 6-5 at halftime.

Basalatan opened the third quarter scoring with an unassisted goal at the 11:24 mark and Jake Ballerini tallied a man-up score at the 8:09 mark to give Chestnut Hill their first lead of the game at 7-6.  Will Duddy assisted on the Ballerini goal. Post tied the game twice before the third quarter ended and the two teams headed into the final period knotted at 8-8.

Austin Derx scored a man-up goal to open the scoring in the final period at the 9:54 mark and Kilgallon completed his hat trick at the7:18 mark to give the Griffins a two-goal lead 10-8.  Hammon assisted on both scores.   Post pulled within one on their final score of the game with 3:11 left.  The Griffin defense, however, would shut down the Eagles, holding them without a shot for the final three minutes of the game to preserve the win.

The men's lacrosse team will face #2 seed Georgian court University in the CACC semifinals on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Lakewood, New Jersey. First faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
