The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team concluded their four-game series with nationally ranked Goldey-Beacom College Saturday afternoon, splitting their doubleheader with the Lightning at Doyle Field in Hockessin, Delaware.
Chestnut Hill lost the first game 7-1 but jumped out to an early lead in game two and went on to defeat the Lightning 12-5, earning a split of the doubleheader and a split of the four-game series. The Griffins are now 20-17 overall and 15-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games. The Lightning, ranked #17 in the most recent National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 poll, are now 20-6 in league play and 30-12 overall.
Colby Seelig earned the win in relief in game two, pitching 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball and allowing just four hits, improving his record to 5-4.   Michael Pascoe drove in five runs, three from a fifth inning home run. Jason Kelly went 3-for-3 with two RBI while Michael Benedetto III, Aiden Myers, Justin Geiger and Pascoe had two hits apiece.
Pascoe's RBI single in the first inning gave Chestnut Hill an early 1-0 lead with the Lightning scoring an unearned run off starter Luke Schweiker (3.2 IP, 5 R, 4ER) in the bottom half of the frame. Benedetto's infield groundout scored Phoenix Bowman with the second Griffins' run before Chestnut Hill blew the game open in the top half of the third inning sending nine men to the plate and scoring five runs.
Kelly and Geiger led off the inning with singles and were sacrificed into scoring position by Kenyon Motley. Kelly and Geiger then scored on an infield error. Two batters later, Wyatt spinks singled to score Nick Shiffler, who reached base on the earlier error with the fifth Griffins run.   A single from Benedetto and a sacrifice fly from Pascoe plated the final two runs of the inning, giving CHC a 7-1 lead.
The Lightning added one run in the third inning and three more in the fourth to close within two 7-5. In the top half of the fifth, Pascoe blasted his seventh home run of the season with Myers and Benedetto on board to put Chestnut Hill back up by five 10-5.
A ground rule double by Kelly in the top half of the seventh inning plated the Griffins' final two runs. Seelig recorded the first two outs in the seventh, gave up a single then got the final out on a fly ball to centerfield to earn the win.
Motley had three of the Griffins' six hits in the opener as the Lightning prevailed 7-1. Chestnut Hill's lone run came off the bat of Christian Peluso who hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the fourth inning.   Pascoe took the loss (1-2), pitching six innings and giving up four runs on four hits while striking out four.
The baseball team returns to action on Monday, April 21, 2025, when they host Georgian Court University at Hostelley field. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.     Â
