Four individual career milestones were reached as the Chestnut Hill college Baseball team clinched a spot in the upcoming central Atlantic collegiate conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep of Georgian court University, 12-2 and 6-2 at Hostelley field in North Wales, Pennsylvania Monday afternoon.
The Griffins improved to 17-11 in conference play and 22-17 overall while the Lions fall to 8-34 overall and 7-25 in CACC games.
Justin Geiger reached three career milestones in game one, recording his 150th career hit, scoring his 100th career run and recording his 100th career RBI, making him the first player in program history to reach all three milestones in the same game. Starting pitcher Jake Schweiker also recorded his 150th career strikeout in game one.
In the second inning of the opener, Geiger reached the 150-hit mark in his first at-bat with an infield single, becoming the 14th player in program history to reach 150 career hits. Geiger also scored the team's first run of the game that same inning to reach 100 runs scored, the tenth player in program history to do so. The senior catcher delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning, his second RBI of the game to become the fifth player in program history with 100 career RBI.
Only three players in program history have  reached all three milestones during their career. The first was Brendan Looby in 2016, followed by John Contoudis in 2022.
Schweiker reached the 150 career strikeout mark in the seventh inning, striking out the first GCU batter of the inning to reach the mark and then finished off striking out the side to finish the game with eight strikeouts. He becomes the fourth player in program history to reach 150 career strikeouts.
The senior pitcher earned the win, pitching seven innings and giving up just three hits and two unearned runs while striking out eight and walking one.  Geiger, Michael Benedetto III, and Nick Shiffler had three hits apiece. Shiffler also drove in three runs, including two with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Geiger and Aiden Myers had two RBIs apiece.
Georgian Court scored their two runs in the top half of the second, taking advantage of an infield error and a wild pitch from Schweiker. Chestnut Hill tied it at 2-2 in the second as Geiger scored on Shiffler's infield out and Kenyon Motley scored on Phoenix Bowman's sacrifice fly.Â
The Griffins took the lead with two runs in the third as Jason Kelly delivered an RBI single and Geiger lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, Myers for a 4-2 lead. Myers then added a single in the fourth to bring home two more CHC runs to increase the lead to 6-2.
A wild pitch allowed Geiger to score the Griffins' seventh run and the score remained 7-2 until Shiffler's blast in the seventh inning. Two batters later, Wyatt Spinks delivered a single with Bowman running on the play from second base to score and up the lead to 10-2.Â
Geiger delivered an RBI single in the eighth, scoring Angus Moore who had walked and stole second. Geiger himself stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before Motley singled him home to end the game via the 10-run rule.
In game two, Dylan Broderick earned his seventh win of the season (7-1) despite some control issues, tying him for the league lead. Broderick walked five in 4.2 innings but gave up only three hits and two runs while striking out two. Colby Seelig finished the game for his league leading eighth save of the season. He struck out four of the seven batters he faced including the final out in the top half of the seventh inning.
Geiger and Motley had two hits apiece. Geiger drove in two runs while Motley was also a terror on the basepaths with three stolen bases and two runs scored. Spinks also had an RBI and two stolen bases. Bowman also had two steals.
Chestnut Hill got on the board in their first at-bat. A two out double from Michael Pascoe was followed by a walk to Jason Kelly, with both runners advancing on a wild pitch, setting the table for Geiger who single to bring both runners home.
Motley had two steals in the second and scored on a throwing error by the GCU catcher to make the score 3-1. The Lions pulled within one, 3-2, with a pair of hits in the fourth inning.
The Griffins added two more in the bottom of the fourth as Motley singled and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. He stole third and then scored on a wild pitch. Three batters later spinks had his RBI single to make the score 5-2.
Broderick loaded the bases with two out in the fifth, walking two batters and hitting another before Seelig entered and proceeded to strikeout Israel Garcia on five pitches to end the inning and get out of the jam.Â
Another GCU wild pitch scored the sixth Chestnut Hill run in sixth inning, giving the Griffins a four-run advantage 6-2. Seelig then shut the door in the seventh, striking out two batters.
The baseball team returns to action on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, when they host Bloomfield college for a CACC Crossover doubleheader at Hostelley field. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
