Griffins Offense Explodes as Baseball Team Sweeps Bloomfield for Fifth Straight Win

Kenyon Motley tallied five hits and seven RBI as the Chestnut Hill College Baseball team exploded for a total of 39 runs in their two game sweep of Bloomfield College, 22-1 and 17-7 Wednesday afternoon at Hostelley Field in North Wales.

The two game sweep extended the Griffins' winning streak to five games as they improved to 19-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games  and 24-17 overall.

Motley had two of the Griffins' 14 hits in the opener, driving in a pair of runs and added three more hits, including a double and a three run home run in the nightcap.

Ten different Griffins had at least one hit in the opener and the team tied a school record, drawing 16 walks equaling the mark set against Lincoln University back in 2015.  The Griffins' 22 runs are the most they have scored in a game since 2019's 22-run effort against Lincoln.

Shawn Levan led the team with three RBI in the opener, with a single, a sacrifice fly and two walks. Ten different Griffins also drove in at least one run, with 12 different players scoring at least once in the contest.  Ben Bradt started and pitched four innings of one-hit baseball, striking out eight to pick up his second win of the season.

Chestnut Hill blew the game open early, scoring nine times in the second inning to take a 10-0 lead.  An error, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly produced the first three runs of the inning before Aiden Myers had his second straight RBI single to make the score 5-0.  Justin Geiger singled to drive in two more and Motley followed with a run scoring triple.  Motley scored on Dylan Broderick's single and Broderick then scored the final run of the inning  off a double by Phoenix Bowman for the 10-0 lead.

The Griffins' offense wasn't done.  Levan, Motley, Broderick, and Bobby Sabatino each drove in a run in the third inning, increasing the lead to 14-0  and a Michael Melosky single and Levan's sacrifice fly made the score 16-0 after four innings.

Three wild pitches by Bloomfield with runners on third base led to three more CHC runs while Daniel Ciotti had an RBI single in between first two scores to give the Griffins a 20-0 lead.  Bases loaded walks to Melosky and Levan plated Chestnut Hill's final two runs in the sixth inning.

Bloomfield's Franny Medina led off the sixth inning with  a solo home run to account for the Bear's only score.

Motley had five RBI and Michael Pascoe added four as the Griffins cruised to a 17-7 win in the nightcap.  Motley, Geiger, and Michael Benedetto III each scored three runs.  Geiger also stole three bases as the Griffins broke a ten-year old team record for most stolen bases in a game with 13.

Cole Morris earned his second win in relief, allowing just one hit in 1.2 innings of work.

Starter Brady Gustitus gave up four runs in the first inning as Bloomfield jumped to an early 4-0 lead.

The Griffins took the lead right back in the bottom half of the first, plating five runs.  Pascoe and Broderick each drove in two runs with doubles and Motley drove in one, also with a double.

Motley's three run home run in the third inning made the score 8-4 and Alexander Fascia added a two-run shot three batters later to put the Griffins ahead 10-4.  Benedetto later scored on a wild pitch.

The Griffins plated two more runs in the third inning  before the Bears chased Gustitus with three runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 13-7.  Chestnut Hill added three more in the fourth, highlighted by Pascoe's two run double to put the lead back at nine 16-7.

Melosky's two-out double in the sixth scored Angus Moore with the final Chestnut Hill run.

The baseball team will close out the regular season over the weekend as they begin a four-game series with area rival Jefferson University on Saturday.  Senior Day ceremonies will take place in between games.  First pitch for game one is at 12:00 p.m.
