Griffins Baseball Team Splits Twinbill with Rams as Team Celebrates Senior Day

In their final home doubleheader of the 2025 season, the Chestnut Hill College Baseball team celebrated their senior players and split their two game set with Jefferson university, winning game two 7-3 while dropping the opener 11-8 at Hostelley field.

The Griffins are now 25-18 overall and 20-12 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Rams are now 31-13 overall and 23-7 in league play.

Prior to the start of game two the Baseball team and the Athletics department honored ten players who would be participating in their final home game as a Chestnut Hill baseball player.  The ten seniors were Jake Schweiker, Colby Seelig, Justin Geiger, Phoenix Bowman, Michael Benedetto III, Dan Ciotti, Jason Kelly, Ben Bradt, Alexander Fascia, and Shawn LeVan. On the field, the ten seniors have been an integral part of the team's success this season while off the field all have excelled in the classroom.

Starter Rich Bonino allowed just three hits and one run through five innings of work to earn his second win of the season in game two as the Griffins came away with the 7-3 victory.

Aiden Myers and Kenyon Motley had two hits apiece while Michael Pascoe drove in two runs.

Benedetto led off the game for the Griffins with a triple into center field and scored on Myers' single.  Three batters later, Myers scored when Motley hit into a fielder's choice to Give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.

A throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt by the Rams in the third inning led to CHC's third run as Geiger scored on the error.  After a walk to Kelly, Nicholas Shiffler singled to score Motley from third to give Chestnut Hill a 4-1 lead.

Pascoe's single with two runners in scoring position increased the Griffins lead to 6-1 in the fourth inning and an infield groundout off the bat of Kelly scored Motley for the second time and gave the Griffins a 7-1 lead.

A two-run home run by Jefferson's Thomas Matuszewski in the sixth inning off Seelig cut the Griffins lead to 7-3, but Seelig shut the door in the seventh  with some help from Geiger throwing out a Rams runner trying to steal second base for the second out.  Following a walk, Seelig induced a force out at second base to end the game with the Griffins earning the win.

In the opener, the Rams scored five times in the middle innings to break a 6-6 tie and hung on to win 11-8, snapping the Griffins' five-game winning streak.

Geiger drove in three runs with a single and a two-run home run while Myers added three hits and two RBI.  Shiffler also drove in two runs.  Pascoe took the loss, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up ten runs (seven earned) while striking out three.

Jefferson's Javon Hernandez hit a two run home run in the first inning to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead.   In the bottom of the first Myers singled with one out and Geiger followed with a single two batters later.  Motley then singled to score Myers and after both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Shiffler delivered a single to right field to score Motley and Geiger and give the Griffins a 3-2 lead.

The Rams scored twice in the second and added two more in the third to take a 6-3 lead heading into the fourth inning.  In the bottom half of the fourth.  Bowman singled and stole second and Dylan Broderick followed with a walk.  Wyatt Spinks then loaded the bases with a bunt single.  Two batters later, Myers doubled to right-centerfield, scoring Broderick and Bowman with Spinks moving to third.  Geiger then tied the game, hitting into a fielder's choice, beating the throw to first base in an attempt to put the senior out, allowing Spinks to score the tying run.

Tie was short lived as the Rams scored a solo run in the fifth, added three more in the sixth and another in the seventh to take an 11-6 lead.

Pascoe singled to start off the bottom of the seventh and Geiger followed with a two run home run over the left centerfield fence to pull the Griffins within three 11-8.   The Griffins, however, managed just one baserunner (a walk to Benedetto) the rest of the way as the Rams held on for the 11-8 win.

The baseball team returns to action for their final regular season games of the 2025 season on Sunday, April 27, 2025, when they conclude their four-game series with the Rams, playing a doubleheader at TJU's Alumni field in Philadelphia.  First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
