Griffins Close out Regular Season with a Doubleheader Loss

The Chestnut Hill College baseball team closed out their 2025 regular season Sunday afternoon with a pair of losses to Jefferson University 9-1 and 23-3 at Jefferson's Alumni Field in Philadelphia.

The Griffins fall to 25-20 overall and 20-14 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.

Jake Schweiker took the loss in game one, tossing five innings while giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out six.

Nick Shiffler had the only extra base hit among Chestnut Hill's five hits in the game and Justin Geiger drove in the lone CHC run.

The Rams held a 5-0 lead when the Geiger delivered an RBI single in the eighth, scoring Aiden Myers who earlier drew a one-out walk.    The Rams then scored four runs int the bottom of the inning to make the final score 9-1.

In the second game, Jefferson got to Chestnut Hill starter Dylan Broderick early, scoring ten runs in the first two innings.  The hosts added nine more in the fourth to take a 19-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the fifth inning.  Jason Kelly doubled  and moved to third on Shiffler's single.  Three batters later Michael Benedetto III drove in Kelly with  a sacrifice fly.

Chestnut Hill scored their final two runs in the seventh as Bobby Sabatino led off the inning with a double and came around to score on Daniel Ciotti's pinch hit single.  Ciotti moved to third via a walk and a flyout before Michael Melosky hit into a fielder's choice as Ciotti scored the Griffins' third and final run.

The baseball team returns to action for the first round of the CACC playoffs, traveling to face Jefferson University on Friday, May 2.
