The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team opened conference play with a 4-3 win over Post University Saturday afternoon at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club in Middlebury Connecticut.
The Griffins improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Eagles drop to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
The Griffins started the match by winning the top two doubles contests to earn the double point. Elena Arenas Guisasola and Milica Zagorac defeated Vitolina Sokoliuk and Lauren Kotala 6-1 to win at #2 doubles. Lilian Bandel and Veronika Lundgren followed with a 6-2 win over Ana Vasilis and Julie Merlin at #1 doubles, giving the Griffins an early 1-0 lead in the match.
Post picked up a quick point as the Griffins, playing with only five players had to forfeit at #6 singles. Bandel quickly recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kotala at #4 singles and Claudia Rasilla Romero added a 6-1, 7-5 win over Savannah Croft at#5 singles to increase CHC's lead to 3-1. Arenas then clinched the match for the Griffins with a  6-3, 6-4 win over Sokoliuk at #2 singles.Â
Lundgren dropped a three set match to Merlin at #3 singles, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 while Zagorac fell at #1 singles to Vasilis, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) to round out the matches.
