Junior Lilian Bandel turned in a solid performance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region Championships Friday and Saturday, reaching the round of 16 in both singles and doubles at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
Bandel won three singles matches en route to her appearance in the round of 16. She opened the tournament with a pair of wins of Friday to reach the round of 32, defeating Gioia Turo of Post University, 6-0, 6-0 and Sara Sofia Gonzalez of Franklin Pierce University 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).
In the round of 32 on Saturday, Bandel defeated Johanne Genestay of Queens College 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 1-0 (10-6). In her final match of the tournament, Bandel lost to Liza Sykla of Wilmington University, 6-2, 6-4
In doubles play, Bandel teamed up with Elena Arenas Guisasola to advance to the round of 16. The duo defeated Gloria Bacaro and Elena Camacho of Wilmington in the round of 32 to reach the round of 16 where they lost to Lois Tsoi and Dajani Abdazic of Southern New Hampshire University 8-5.
Arenas Guisasola was also the only other Griffin player to win a singles match, defeating Vitalina Sokoliuk of Post in the round of 64 before falling in the round of 32 to #4 seed Roisin Boyd of Adelphi University 6-4, 6-4.
The women's tennis team returns to action on Monday, September 29, 2025, when they face Goldey-Beacom College in a rescheduled match that was originally scheduled for September 24, 2025. First serve will be at 2:00 p.m. at the CHC Tennis Courts.
