Monday's women's tennis match between Chestnut Hill College and Goldey-Beacom College came down to the wire as the Lightning edged the Griffins 4-3 at the CHC Tennis Courts.
The Griffins fall to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches. The Lightning improve to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The Lightning had the advantage in doubles, needing only to win one of the two played matches as the Griffins had to forfeit the #3 doubles slot. Goldey-Beacom won at #1 doubles to capture the doubles point. At #2 doubles, Milica Zagorac and Veronika Lundgren defeated Nahmi Quinonez and Jenna Frank 7-6 (8-6) for their first doubles win together.
Goldey-Beacom made the score 2-0 with a forfeit by the Griffins at #6 singles, but Chestnut Hill came back to tie the match at 2-2 with wins at #4 and #5 singles.
Lundgren recorded a 7-4, 6-2 win over Lucia Corte at #4 singles while Lilian Bandel was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Ana Thaler at #5 singles.
The Griffins then took a 3-2 lead in the match as Claudia Rasilla Romero won a hard fought three set contest against Quinonez at #3 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
The Lightning, however, came back and captured the final two matches, capturing a three set win at #1 singles over Zagorac and earning a hard fought win at #2 singles over Elena Arenas Guisasola to secure the 4-3 match win.
