Sara Tamoun recorded a double-double and led five players in double figures as the Chestnut Hill college Women's Basketball team cruised to a 79-54 win over the University of Bridgeport Saturday afternoon at Sorgenti arena.
The Griffins improve to 5-2 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games and 8-7 overall. The Purple Knights fall to 6-5 overall and 4-3 in league play
Tamoun recorded her second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 19 points (7-13 FG, 3-6 3FG) and grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds. The senior small forward also filled the stat sheet with a career-best seven assists while also garnering two steals. Tikyra Miller added 17 (8-11 FG) points and dished out a career-high eight assists.
Joining Tamoun and Miller in double figures were Tiayo Adelekan (14 points – 7-10 FG); Sabria Mann (10 [points) and Tamia Washington (11 points; 3 three-point field goals). Mann also grabbed seven rebounds. Washington also dished out seven assists.Â
The Griffins had three players with seven or more assists for only the second time in program history, the first coming against Penn State Abington on Dec. 18, 2023 (Avery White-11; Kaitlyn Carter-8; Caleigh Edwards-7).
Chestnut Hill led the game wire-to wire, scoring the first six points and later jumping out to 10-1 lead, closing out the quarter with a 10-4 run, fueled by Miller and Washington who scored split the scoring duties with five points apiece over the course of the run as the Griffins led 20-5.
Ten quick points to open the second quarter, Tamoun scoring the first four and Adelekan the last six, pushed the lead to 30-5. Later in the quarter, a three-point basket from Tamoun, followed by one from Mann produced a 27-point lead for the Griffins, their largest of the first half, 43-16 with 3:28 left. The Purple Knights scored the final four points of the quarter to make the score 43-20 at halftime.
The 20+ point advantage oscillated between 22 and 27 points over the first seven minutes of the third quarter before the Purple Knights went on an 8-0 run to pull within 19, 57-38 with just under ten seconds remaining. Tamoun then snagged a defensive rebound and took the ball the length of the court for a fastbreak layup as time was about to run out.
Bridgeport's Savannah Prescott (11 points) scored the first three points of the final period to pull UB within 18, 59-41 before the Griffins exploded with a 14-3 uprising to take their biggest lead of the game at 73-44 with 6:05 remaining. The lead never dipped below 26 points until Bridgeport's final basket, a three-point basket from Laia Albas in the final four seconds, made the final score 74-59.
Zahkiyyah Frazier also has 11 points for the Purple Knights. Frazier, Prescott, Nicole Bennini and India Lee grabbed six rebounds apiece to lead Bridgeport.
For the game, the Griffins shot 49.3% (34-69) from the field while holding the Purple Knights to just 31.4% (21-61). Chestnut Hill also outrebounded Bridgeport 45-39.
The women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 when they host Georgian Court University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
