The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Georgian Court University 75-72 Wednesday night at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins improve to 6-9 overall and even the record in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games at 4-4. The Lions fall to 3-5 in league play and 6-10 overall.
Kamal Lee led all scorers with 17 points while Amari Dow and Alejandro Redondo Cybak both recorded double-doubles. Dow had 16 points and ten rebounds while Cybak added 15 points, all in the second half, and grabbed ten rebounds. Jeremiah Gorham rounded out the double figure scorers for the Griffins with ten points. Landon Shivers had six blocks, the most by a CACC player this season. Four different players (Lee, Cybak, Gorham and Shivers) had three assists apiece.
Chestnut Hill trailed 29-25 at halftime before the Lions doubled the margin to eight points 33-29 in the first 90 seconds of the second half. GCU led by seven when the Griffins went on an 8-0 tear to take their first lead since early in the first half, 39-38 following a three-point basket from Lee.
The lead changed three times in the next minute with the Lions opening up a three point advantage 45-42 with 13:23 left. Lee then started a 9-0 run for the Griffins with another three-ball to tie the game. Marshall Baker put the Griffins ahead a three point basket and Lee added one more three-pointer for good measure to give CHC a 51-45 lead with 11:33 left.
The Lions countered with a 10-3 run to retake the lead 55-53 two minutes later. Again the Griffins rallied, getting a layup from Dow and six straight points from Cybak to go back up by six 61-55 with 7:41 left. Again the Lions roared back, tying the game at 62-62. Another run from Chestnut Hill followed, this one a 9-2 spurt to give the Griffins their biggest lead of the game at 71-64 with 2:09 remaining. GCU again chipped away at the lead closing within one 73-72 with just 43 seconds remaining. Neither team scored on their next possession and the Lions were forced to foul. Dow made one of two free throws with nine seconds left and Gorham added one of two free throws with seven seconds left to round out the scoring. A last second attempt to tie the game by the Lions bounced off the rim and into the hands of Gorham as time expired.
For the game, the Lions turned in the better shooting effort from the field, making 43.5% (30-69) of their shots while the griffins made 24 of 64 (37.5%). The Griffins did dominate from the free throw line, particularly in the second half, outscoring the Lions 19-3 in the final 20 minutes and finishing the game shooting 19-for-29 (65.5%) while the Lions made just six of 13 throughout the game (46.2%). The Griffins also had a slight rebounding edge, 46-43.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 17, 2026 when they travel to face Caldwell University in northern New Jersey. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
