The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team's road struggles continued as they dropped an 80-68 decision to host Caldwell University at the Newman Center in Caldwell, New Jersey Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins fall to 6-10 overall and drop to 4-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Cougars improve to 4-6 in league play and 6-11 overall. Chestnut Hill has now dropped nine straight road contests dating back to February of last season.
Alejandro Redondo Cybak led the Griffins, scoring 16 of his game high 19 points (5-9 FG, 8-8 FT) in the second half. Jeremiah Gorham added 17 points. Tyler Spencer came off the bench to equal his season-high with 14 points (7-14 FG). Amari Dow rounded out the Griffins double figure scorers with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Gorham started off the scoring to give Chestnut Hill the initial lead, but the Cougars followed with 18 straight points to lead 18-2 before Spencer's put-back layup broke the streak with 13:31 left. Spencer's putback also started an 8-0 run in which he scored all eight points as Chestnut Hill cut the margin to 18-10. Nine straight points from Caldwell followed and lead was up to 17 points 27-10 with 7:58 left. The Griffins pulled within 11 twice during the remainder of the half, the last at the 2:46 mark on a Dow layup. Caldwell scored the final six points of the half to lead 38-21 at halftime.
Ther Cougars maintained their double digit lead throughout most of the second half, leading by as many as 19 points midway through the period. Trailing by 14 late in the game, the Griffins went on a 7-0 run to pull within seven, 73-66 with 1:26 left, getting layups from Gorham and Cybak and a traditional three-point play from Dow. The Cougars, however, made seven of eight free throws in the final 1:22 to seal the 80-68 win.
For the game, the Cougars out shot the Griffins 46.0% (29-63) to 38.5% (25-65). Caldwell also outscored Chestnut Hill from beyond the arc, connecting on nine three pointers to CHC's four. The Griffins did finish with a slight edge in rebounding 42-39.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 when they host neighboring rival Jefferson University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
