Offense is Solid as Griffins Defeat Rams, 95-87

Four players scored in double figures as the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team exploded for a season-high 95 points, holding off a solid Jefferson university squad 95-87 Tuesday evening in Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins improve to 7-10 overall and even their Central Atlantic Collegiate conference record at 5-5.  The Rams drop to 5-5 in league play and 9-8 overall.

Kamal Lee had a career night scoring 25 points while connecting on seven of ten three point shots.  His seven three point baskets are the most made by a CACC player this season. He finished the game making eight of 12 shots overall.  Jeremiah Gorham also reached the 20-point plateau with 20 points exactly (5-8 FG, 8-10 FT, 2 3FG).

Joining Lee and Gorham in double figures were Amari Dow and Landon Shivers.  Dow had 17 points while Shivers recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

The Rams jumped out to a five point lead 17-12 in the first five minutes of the game.   Lee then started an 11-0 run to put the Griffins ahead 23-17 with 12:25 left in the period.  Dow's three -ball increased the lead to nine 32-23 with 8:32 starting a 19-7 uprising that saw the Griffins extend their lead to 18 points, 48-30 with two minutes left in the first half.  Jefferson scored the final six points of the half to cut the Griffins lead to 12, 48-36 at halftime.

Jefferson brought the lead down to single digits in the first four minutes of the second half, and whittled the lead to three points, 58-55 with 12:06 left.  A three-ball from Lee followed by a Dow layup and another three-pointer push the lead back to double digits, 66-45 at the 10:45 mark.  Two free throws from Lee made it ten straight points by the Griffins and a 13-point lead 68-55.

The Griffins later had a 13-5 run to built the lead to 26, 83-67 with 4:51 left.  CHC still led by 13, 88-75 with three minute left in the game when the Rams ran off six straight points to close within seven 88-81 with just 1:45 left.  The Griffins sealed the win on the free throw line , making seven of eight in the final 1:31 to seal the eight point win.

For the game, the Griffins turned in a very efficient all-around shooting effort, making 51.7% of their shots (30-58).   Half of their made field goals were three-point baskets as the team made 15 of 30 shots from beyond the arc (50%).  Their 15 three-point baskets is two shy of the school record 17 made last year vs. UDC.  The Griffins also made 20 of 24 free throws (83.3%).   The Rams meanwhile shot 45.7% from the field (32-70) and were just eight of 25 from three point=t range (32%).

Chestnut Hill held a slight edge rebounding, 38-34 and committed one less turnover than the Rams (13-14).

The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 24, 2026 when they travel to face Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut.  Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
