Kourin Carew came off the bench to score a career high 21 points, but the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball saw their three-game winning streak come to an end as host Caldwell University handed the griffins an 82-51 loss Saturday afternoon at the Newman Center in Caldwell, New Jersey.
The Griffins fall to 9-8 overall and drop to 6-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The cougars improve to 5-5 in league play and 11-6 overall.
Carew connected on six of 15 shots from the field including one three-point basket and added eight free throws in 27 minutes off the bench. She also led the team with eight rebounds. Sara Tamoun was the only other Griffin in double figures, scoring ten points (3-7 FG, 4-4 FT). Anahita Jackson and Aryianna Sumpter added five rebounds apiece while Tikyra Miller led the team with four assists. Tamoun had three steals.
The Griffins struggled offensively in the first quarter with Carew making the only two baskets Chestnut Hill had in the period. Her second basket gave the Griffins an early 7-6 lead midway through the period, but the Cougars closed out the quarter with a 10-3 run to lead 16-10. Carew had eight of the Griffins ten points with Tamoun's two free throws accounting for the other two.
The Cougars exploded in the second quarter, opening up a double digit lead and extending it to as many as 21 points before taking a 42-23 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Caldwell outscored the Griffins 20-15 in the third quarter and 20-13 in the fourth to close out the game.
The Griffins made just 25% of their shots from the field (16-64) while the Cougars connected on 30 of 54 shots (55.6%). Caldwell made two more three point field goals and just one more free throw, but it could have been a lot worse as they missed a total of 19 free throw attempts (18-37) while the Griffins missed just eight (17-25).  Chestnut Hill forced 19 turnovers but scored just eight points off them. The Griffins committed three fewer miscues, but the Cougars produced 17 points off of those.
The women's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 when they host neighboring rival Jefferson University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
