Sara Tamoun scored a career high 26 points and Tiayo Adelekan came off the bench to record a double as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team defeated area rival Jefferson University 75-69 Tuesday night at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins improve to 10-8 overall and 7-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Rams fall to 6-4 in league games and 12-6 overall. The win was Chestnut Hill's first against the Rams since the 2022-23 season.
Tamoun connected on five three point baskets and nine total field goals as she tossed down 26 points to lead all scorers and besting her previous career high of 25 points set back in December against Holy Family. The senior small forward also recorded four steals and six assists.Â
Adelekan connected on eight of 11 shots from the field for 16 points while pulling down 16 rebounds, equaling her career high.  Kourin Carew and Tamia Washington added nine points apiece while Kaya Mobley shared the team lead with Tamoun with six assists.
The Griffins connected no five three point baskets in the first quarter, three from Washington and two from Tamoun as they jumped out to a double digit lead, 21-10 after the first quarter.
Jefferson chipped away at the lead as the second quarter progressed, closing within two points 27-25 with a 15-6 run in the first six minutes of the period. After both teams exchanged free throws, Tamoun and Adelekan added layups to increase the lead to six by halftime 33-27.
A 13-4 run by the Rams over the first five minutes of the third quarter, gave the Rams their first lead of the game 40-37. Tamoun tied the score at 40-40 with a three-ball and added a late three to put the Griffins back ahead in the final minute and Anahita Jackson's three-point basket as time was about to expire put the Griffins ahead 50-47 heading into the final quarter.
Chestnut hill doubled their lead to six, 56-50 with a short jumper from Sabria Mann. The Griffins lead fluctuated between three and seven points for most of remaining time in the quarter. Mann's layup with just under a minute to go put the Griffins up by nine 71-62.  The Rams would get no closer than five in the final minute before Carew's free throw sealed the six point win.
For the game, the Griffins shot 42.6% from the field (29-68) while the Rams shot 42.2% (27-64). CHC made nine three point baskets (9-26, 34.6%) while the Rams connected on four (4-9). The Griffins held a slight 43-41 rebounding advantage while both teams committed 14 turnovers with the Rams outscoring the Griffins 16-8 in the points of turnovers category.
The women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, January 24, 2026 when they travel to face Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
