Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dow Scores Career High but Griffins Falter in Loss to Lightning

Amari Dow scored a career high 23 points, but the Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team fell short as Goldey-Beacom College handed the Griffins an 89-70 loss Wednesday night at Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins fall to 7-12 overall and 5-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Lightning improve to 8-4 in league play and 14-6 overall.

Dow connected on 10 of 15 shots from the field, including three three-point field goals en route to his career high 23 points.  The red-shirt freshman also has three steals, two blocks and five rebounds.

Kamal Lee added 14 points (7-8 FT) and dished out a game high six assists. Landon Shivers rounded out the Griffins' double figure scorers with ten points.   Shivers along with Alejandro Redondo Cybak  also had five rebounds to tie Dow for team high honors in that category.

Shivers scored the first four points of the game before the Lightning struck back with an 18-4 run to take a double digit lead, 18-8 with 120:57 left in the half.  Chestnut Hill countered with an 18-6 uprising to close within two 26-24 with 4:33 left, getting three point field goals from Dow and Lee and layups from Cybak, Tyler Spencer and Shivers.  Spencer completed the run with a pair of free throws.

The Lightning scored two quick baskets to go back up by six and the lead fluctuated between three and seven points the rest of the half  with the Griffins trailing 38-32 at halftime.

The first five minutes of the second half saw the Lightning extend their lead to double digits 49-38.  Seven straight Griffin points, capped by a Cybak three-ball brought the lead back down to four 49-45 over the next minute.  Twelve straight points from the Lightning followed and the Griffins found themselves trailing by 16, 61-45 with 9:39 left.  Dow's three-ball cut the lead to 13 but that would be as close as the Griffins would come the rest of the way.

Chestnut Hill did make one final run though.  Trailing 82-58 with 4:08 left, the Griffins went on a 12-2 tear to cut the lead to 14, 84-70 with just 2:17 left.   Lee and Dow combined for ten of the 12 points during the run.  GBC scored the final five points of the game for the 19-point win.

Both teams shot the ball fairly well with the Griffins making 45.5% (25-55) of their shots and the Lightning making 50% (31-62) of theirs.  GBC doubled up the Griffins in three-point makes (10-5) and made two more free throws than CHC (17-15).  The Lightning had a slight 33-30 rebound advantage and committed five fewer turnovers than the Griffins (12-17).

The men's basketball team returns to action on February 3, 2026 when they travel to face Holy Family University in northeast Philadelphia.  Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
