Alejandro Redondo Cybak led three players in double figures and scored his 1,000th career point in a Chestnut Hill College uniform, but the Griffins' men's basketball team's rally fell just short as Georgian Court University eked out a 72-71 win at GCU's Wellness Center Arena in Lakewood, New Jersey Tuesday night.
The Griffins fall to 8-16 overall and 6-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. The Lions are also 6-11 in league play and 9-16 overall.
Cybak entered the game 11 points shy of the 1,000-point mark as a chestnut Hill player. After scoring nine points in the first half, the senior center recorded a put-back layup just 27 seconds into the second half to reach the 1,000-point plateau. He becomes just the eleventh player in program history to score 1,000 points while wearing a Chestnut Hill uniform. Coupled with his 285 points as a freshman at South Puget Sound CC he has 1,301 for hisoverall career.  Cybak led all players with 27 points (12-21 FG) for the game.
Malcolm Day added 16 points (6-10 FG, 4-4 3FG) while Jeremiah Gorham chipped in 14 points. Amari Dow led the Griffins with ten rebounds with Cybak narrowly missing his third straight double-double with nine. Gorham and Dow had three assists apiece while Kamal Lee had four steals.
The Griffins rally began at the start of the second half. Georgian Court had led by 16 points with a dominant three point shooting effort in the opening 20 minutes, connecting on 11 three-point baskets to take a 44-28 led. Cybak's 1,000th point layup started what would be a 17-0 run that erased the deficit and gave the Griffins a 45-44 lead at the 13:07 mark.  Day contributed a pair of three point baskets and Gorham and Lee had two and one field goals, respectively. Cybak closed the run with a layup.
After a basket by the Lions to break the run, the Griffins used the next seven minutes to build a nine point lead, 65-56, outscoring the Lions, 20-10. The Lions followed with a 12-0 run to take the lead 68-54 with 2:49 left. Baskets from Cybak and Day put the Griffins back on top 69-68 with 1:07 left. GCU's Cam Edmonds (25 points), followed with a traditional three-point play to put the Lions ahead by two with 45 seconds left and added a free throw with 17 seconds left to make the score 72-69. Gorham's driving layup with seven seconds left pulled the Griffins within one. Following a free throw miss from the Lions, the Griffins had one more chance but Cybak's three-point heave at the buzzer fell short.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 21, 2026 when they travel to face the University of Bridgeport. Tipoff is set for 3:0 p.m.
