Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Griffins Fall to Purple Knights as Dow leads Four Players in Double Figures

Amari Dow led four players in double figures, but the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team fell short against the University of Bridgeport 73-64 Saturday afternoon at Hubbell Gymnasium in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The Griffins fall to 8-17 overall  and 6-12 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Purple Knights improve to 7-11 in league play and 10-15 overall.

Dow led all scorers with 17 points (7-12 FG) while Kamal Lee and Alejandro Redondo Cybak had 13 apiece.  Jeremiah Gorham chipped in 12 points, including a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line.  Gorham also became just the seventh player in program history to make at least ten free throws without a miss and the first since Liban Awl went 11-for-11 against Mercy in November 2017.

Malcolm Day led the team with eight rebounds while Lee and Gorham had three assists apiece to lead the team. Landon Shivers had two blocks.

The Griffins scored the first five points of the game and still led by four when the Purple Knights produced a 7-2 run to take their first lead of the game, 12-11 following a Griffin turnover with 14:42 left in the half.   The lead change was the first of 11 lead changes over the next five minutes of action.    Cybak nailed a three-point basket with 9:53 left to give the Griffins a 22-20 lead and the Purple Knights followed with a 17-3 explosion to lead 37-25 lead with 2:48 left. Both teams exchanged three-point baskets in the final 1:23 as the Purple Knights maintained their 12 point lead at halftime.

A 13-3 run by the Griffins to open the second half cut the deficit to two points 43-41.  Dow scored nine of the 13 points during the run.  The Griffins still were still within one possession 48-45 when the Purple Knights exploded with a 17-2 run to expand their lead to their biggest margin, 18 points, 65-47 with 6:49 remaining.   The Griffins made another run, cutting the deficit back to single digits with 15-2 effort to make the score 69-62 with 1:48 left.  The Griffins would get no closer as the Purple Knights sand a pair of free throws in the final minute to make the final score 71-64.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 when they travel to face area rival Jefferson University before closing out the regular season with a home game against Felician University.  The Jefferson contest tips off at 8:00 p.m. while the Felician game has a 3:00 p.m. tipoff.
