Griffins Drop Second Straight League Contest, Falling to Lions

 The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team dropped their second consecutive league game Tuesday night, falling to Georgian Court University 78-59 at GCU's Wellness Center in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The Griffins fall to 13-12 overall and 10-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Lions improve to 9-16 overall and 8-9 in league play.

Sara Tamoun led all scorers with 25 points (8-16 FG, 7-8 FT).  Kourin Carew recorded a double-double with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds while also recording two blocks.  Aryianna Sumpter added nine rebounds and two blocks.  Sabria Mann and Tiayo Adelekan had three steals apiece.

The Lions led the contest wire-to-wire, scoring the first eight points before Carew's putback at the 7:08 mark got the Griffins on the board.  Another 8-2 run from the Lions pushed the lead to double figures, 16-4 with 4:39 left.  Georgian Court finished the quarter with a 22-10 lead.

Georgian Court increased the lead to as many as 19 in the second quarter before the Griffins scored the final six point, starting with a three-pointer from Tamoun to pull within 13, 39-26 at the half.

Two straight baskets from Tamoun to open the third quarter cut the lead to single digits, 39-30  just 30 seconds into the period. Anaisah Malone's three point basket with 6:35 left cut the deficit to eight 43-35.  The Lions outscored the Griffins 17-8 over the final 6:35  to lead 60-43 heading into the final quarter.

The Griffins would only get as close as 13 in the fourth quarter as the Lions gradually pulled away, finishing with a 19-point win.  78-59.

The women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 21, 2026 when they travel to face the University of Bridgeport.  Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
