Eight different players scored as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team opened their season Wednesday afternoon with a 14-2 win over University of the District of Columbia at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.
Kendall Gayton and Samantha Martin led the team with three goals apiece while Nicole George and Molly Miller each scored twice. Ryley Geary, Bryce Westervelt, Dyllen Andrews and Hayden Johnson added one apiece. Gayton and George were the only two returnees from last year's squad to score as the six other goal scorers were making their collegiate debut.
Gayton finished the game with three caused turnovers while Elizabeth Deal added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Johnston also finished the game with two ground balls.
The Griffins jumped out to a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game as Gayton took a pass from Miller and shot it into the back of the net. Gayton added a man-down goal at the 7:07 mark with an assist from Carlee O'Donnell. Miller and Martin followed with free position goals before Geary closed out the first quarter picking up a loose ball and driving into the lane for a score, giving the Griffins a 5-0 lead after one quarter.
George scored her first goal of the game just 37 seconds into the second quarter and assisted on Martin's second goal at the 11:04 mark. Martin's goal was a man-up score.  O'Donnell fed Westervelt for her first collegiate goal at the 8:29 mark and Miller added a man-up goal with 5:37 left.  Gayton completed the hat trick with a free position goal with 3:32 left to give the Griffins a 10-0 lead at halftime.
The Griffins increased their lead to 11-0 with George's second goal of the game with 5:02 left in the third quarter.  The Firebirds scored two straight goals as the teams headed into the fourth quarter.Â
Martin completed her hat-trick at the 8:20 mark of the fourth quarter while Andrews scored with 3:50 left. Johnston rounded out the scoring with a goal in the final minute. Westervelt assisted on Chestnut Hill's final three goals.
The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 when they host Saint Thomas Aquinas College at Victory field. First Draw is set for 2:00 p.m.
