Griffins Fall to Spartans at Northeast Challenge in Myrtle Beach

The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team played their third game of their four game set at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, falling to Saint Thomas Aquinas college 21-5 Saturday morning.

The Griffins fall to 1-2 with the loss.  The Spartans improve to 2-1.

Mason Adkins took the loss for the Griffins, pitching two innings and giving up seven runs (three earned) while striking out two.  Jackson Shollenberger had two of the Griffins seven hits.

STAC took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first before the Griffins responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.   Kenyon Motley drew a walk to start the game for the Griffins and stole second and third before scoring on Michael Pascoe's infield groundout.  Nick Shiffler followed with a double and scored on an infield error to give Chestnut Hill a 2-1 lead.

The Spartans retook the lead in the top half of the second, scoring six runs off Adkins, taking advantage of two Griffin errors to lead 7-2. 

Shollenberger scored the Griffins' third run in the bottom of the second following Motley's RBI single.  Motley then stole second for his third stolen base of the game while Angus Moore, who walked prior to Motley's at-bat stole third.  Moore scored on Aiden Myers' sacrifice fly to centerfield to make the score 7-4.

Over the next three innings, the Spartans tacked on 11 more runs, taking  and 18-4 lead before the Griffins scored in the bottom half of the sixth.  Shollenberger delivered a one-out single for his second hit of the game and scored on Anthony Jakeman's double to make the score 18-5. 

STAC added three more runs in the top half of the seventh to round out the scoring.

The baseball team returns to action on Saturday, February 28, 2026 with their home opener against the College of Staten Island.  The games are set to be played at Plymouth Whitemarsh High school starting at 12:00 p.m.
