Griffins Defeat Dolphins in Home Opener

The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team opened the "home" portion of their season Saturday afternoon with an 11-5 win over the College of Staten Island. The game was played at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School's Baseball field.

The Griffins improve to 2-2 with the win.  The Dolphins fall to 1-3.

Jackson Shollenberger hit a home run  while Kenyon Motley had three hits, including a triple and drove in three runs.  Angus Moore had two hits and three RBI while Michael Pascoe had two RBI.

George Conway earned the win in relief for the Griffins, getting the final two outs of the fourth inning of a 3-3 tie before the Griffins went ahead for good in the bottom half of the fourth.  Conway faced three batters, allowed one hit and struck out one.  Noah Tincher started the game and went 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out two.

The Dolphins struck first, scoring twice in the first inning off Tincher before the Griffins rallied with a three-run third inning.  Bobby Sabatino led off getting hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  Moore singled to score Sabatino and came around to score on Motley's triple to right field.  Aiden Myers singled to score Motley and give CHC  a 3-2 lead.

Staten Island tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth and Shollenberger broke the tie in the bottom half of the inning with his first home run as a Griffin, a long shot over the center field fence.

The Griffins added five more runs in the bottom half of the sixth as Moore notched his second RBI of the game, scoring Dylan Broderick who walked and Shollenberger who had  reached base on an error.  Motley singled to score Sabatino (walked)  and two batters later, Pascoe singled, scoring Motley and Moore to make the score 9-3.

The Dolphins added one run in the seventh with the Griffins scoring their final two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Michael Melosky led off the inning with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch.   Sabatino then drew a one out walk  and stole second, moving on to third on the CSI catcher's errant throw, allowing Melosky to score.  Two batters later, Motley hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Sabatino with the final Griffins run.

Staten Island scored their final run in the eighth inning off Pascoe who had come on to pitch in the fifth inning.

The baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 with a game against West Chester University.  The game will be played at Harford Community College in Aberdeen Maryland.
