The Chestnut Hill College baseball team struggled offensively Wednesday afternoon as they lost to Wilmington University 7-1 at Hostelley Field in North Wales, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins fell to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Wildcats improve to 4-2 in league play and 12-7 overall.
Kenyon Motley and Wyatt Spinks, the two Griffins at the top of the order had two singles apiece, accounting for four of the Griffins' nine hits. Angus Moore drove in Chestnut Hill's lone ran with a single in the eighth inning.
Starter Dylan Broderick took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. Broderick gave up three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Broderick gave up one run in the second inning and two in the third and was replaced by Joe Kelly with one out in the third inning. Kelly pitched through the eighth inning allowing four runs. George Conway pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Trailing 7-0 , the Griffins got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning as Nicholas Shiffler led off the inning with a double down the rightfield line advancing to third on Jackson Shollenberger's infield groundout. Moore then delivered a hard hit infield single to score Shiffler. The Griffins then loaded the bases with two out before Motley grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.
Chestnut Hill put two runners on the ninth in an attempt to rally but failed to score.
The baseball team returns to action on Saturday, March 21, 2026 with a doubleheader at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
