The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team suffered their first conference loss of the season and had their four game winning streak snapped as Wilmington University defeated the griffins 11-8 Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletic Complex in Newark, Delaware.
The Griffins fall to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Wildcats improve to 4-0 in league play and 6-4 overall.
A trio of Griffins, Charles Cox, Will Duddy and Aidan Walsh scored two goals apiece while Jake Ballerini and Preston Page added one goal each.  Ballerini added two assists to his one goal to finish the game with three points. Duddy also had three points with an assist with his two goals.Â
Aidan Owens and Carter Getz led the team with five ground balls apiece. Owens also had five caused turnovers. Adam Daley had 11 saves in goal.
Ballerini tallied the Griffins first goal of the game, evening the score at 1-1 with 7:09 left. Wilmington scored twice in the finial minute of the first quarter to lead 3-1 heading into the second.
Less than a  minute into the second quarter Duddy brought the Griffins within one with an unassisted goal. Cox tied the game at 3-3 with a goal assisted by Paul Katko-Capozzi with 6:05 left. The Wildcats added one more score before halftime to hold a slim 4-3 lead.
Wilmington scored three unanswered goals to start the third period. Page tallied his 11th goal of the season with Ballerini getting the assist at 5:33 and Walsh notched his tenth of the year with 1:36 left (Duddy on the assist) to pull the Griffins within two 7-5 as the teams headed into the final period.Â
Similar to the third quarter, the Wildcats again scored the first three goals to start the period, taking a 10-5 lead. Walsh scored his second of the game with 8:08 left with an assist from Matthew Miller to make the score 10-6. The Wildcats scored again with 4:24 left to go back up by five 11-6. Cox and duddy scored the griffins final to goals to round out the scoring.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 when they host Molloy University at Victory Field. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
