Eagles Take Season Series with a 10-7 Win over Griffins

The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team concluded their three game series with Post University on Sunday, hosting the Eagles at Hostelley field in North Wales, Pennsylvania.

The Eagles used a four run fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie en route to earning a 10-7 win over the Griffins to take the season series.

Chestnut Hill falls to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Eagles improve to 12-13 overall and 6-3 in league play.

Griffin starter Noah Tincher took the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings of work while striking out six batters. All nine Griffins in the lineup had at least one hit with Matthew Sharkey delivering three of them, two going for extra bases.  In total, seven of the Griffins 11 hits went for extra bases, including a home run by Wyatt Spinks in the first inning to put the Griffins on the board.

Leading 1-0 as the teams entered the second inning, Jackson Shollenberger led off with a double and came around to score on Sharkey's one out double to make the score 2-0.

A two out infield error by the Griffins led to two Eagle runs, tying the game at 2-2 in the top half of the third.  Shollenberger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom half of the third to put the Griffins back on top 3-2.  Shollenberger went on to get hit two more times before the game ended, tying the school record for getting hit by pitch in a game at three, set earlier this month by teammate Dylan Broderick against Dominican University.

The Eagles scored two more in the top of the fourth to lead 3-3 only to have the Griffins rally, again courtesy of two doubles in the inning.  Sharkey led off with his second double of the game and two batters later Angus Moore delivered a two-base hit down the left field line to score Sharkey with the tying run.

Post got to Tincher early in the fourth inning, eventually batting around and getting hits off three different CHC pitchers while scoring four runs to take an 8-4 lead.  The Eagles added another run in the sixth to expand the lead to 9-4.

The Griffins pulled back within two with a three-run eighth inning.   Post's Dalton Wright hit the first two Griffin batters before Kenyon Motley delivered a ground rule double to centerfield scoring Broderick with the first run of the inning.  Spinks reached on a fielder's choice as Moore scored.  He stole second and moved to third on a throwing error before Michael Pascoe lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Spinks with the seventh Chestnut Hill run.

The Eagles added another run in the top of the ninth to make the score 10-7.  The Griffins threatened in the bottom of their ninth as Sharkey and Broderick singled to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs.  Pinch hitter Luke Sosa then grounded out to end the game.

The baseball team returns to action on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 when they host Jefferson University at Hostelley Field for a CACC doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
