Griffins Rally From Three-Goal Deficit to Win Conference Opener

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse rallied from a three-goal third quarter deficit to earn a 9-7 win over the University of Bridgeport Saturday afternoon in the team's conference opener at Victory field in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins are now 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.  The Purple Knights drop to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Charles Cox led a trio of Griffins with two goals apiece and started the comeback rally with a man-up goal in the third quarter.  Will Duddy and Aidan Walsh also had two goals apiece and were instrumental in the third quarter rally

On defense, Daniel Myers had seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Silas Charles and Thomas Gallagher had two caused turnovers apiece.  Adam Daley had eight saves in goal.

The Griffins had a two-goal lead early in the second quarter when the Purple Knights scored five straight goals to take a 6-3 lead with 11:19 left in the third quarter.  Five minutes later the Griffins began their comeback rally when Cox, with an assist from Walsh scored a man-up goal at the 6:01 mark to make the score 6-4.   Walsh brought the Griffins within one with an unassisted score with 1:52 left in the third quarter

Bridgeport won the faceoff to start the fourth quarter but turned the ball over.  Duddy then tallied his second goal of the game at the 13:45 mark to tie the score at 6-6. Eighty seconds later, Walsh had his second goal of the game, and the Griffins retook the lead at 7-6.  The Purple Knights followed with the tying goal at the 10:41 mark.

Cox helped put the Griffins back on top, assisting on Preston Page's goal with 8:59 left.   Chestnut Hill's defense took over, allowing just two UB shots the rest of the game while also causing three turnovers along with two UB unforced turnovers.  Jake Basllerini added an empty net goal  with 3.7 seconds left to seal the win.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 14, 2026 when they host Dominican University at Victory field.  First faceoff is at 1:00 p.m.
