The Chestnut Hill College women's Flag football team began their inaugural season on Saturday and came away with a win in their two games, defeating Centenary University 24-18in overtime in their second game of the day at Eastern University.
The Griffins dropped their first game in program history earlier in the day to host Eastern University 52-0. Chestnut Hill is now 1-1 overall.
Against Centenary, Yorehiny Monero's touchdown in the opening minutes of overtime sealed the win for the Griffins'Â Monero's touchdown was set up by a 70-yard interception return by Caroline Croteau.
Croteau led the Griffins with 71 yards passing and gained an additional 61 yards running the ball. The junior quarterback completed 10 of 24 passes in the game and ran for one touchdown. Monero had one touchdown and one catch. Raquelle Dandy rushed for 44 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 28 yards.
On defense Croteau was also the star with seven tackles and two interceptions. Caliyah Brown also had seven tackles, including five sacks for 18 yards. Dandy and Janae Ochoa had five tackles apiece.
The Griffins struck first with Croteau rushing for the first touchdown  to give Chestnut Hill a 6-0 lead.  The Cyclones countered with 18 straight points to take an 18-6 lead by halftime.
Chestnut Hill began its comeback in the third quarter with Dandy taking the ball in from three yards out. To make the score 18-12. Dandy added another touchdown late in the third quarter, scoring on a 25-yard run to tie the game.Â
Neither team scored in the fourth quarter sending the game into overtime. Centenary  started with the ball, but on the second play of the overtime Croteau intercepted in Cyclone pass on the goal line and returned it 70 yards.   On the next play Monero took the ball, ran left and right into the end zone for the game winning score.
In the first game, Eastern, who was picked second in the Atlantic East pre-season poll, exploded for 33 second half points as they dominated the Griffins 52-0.
Chestnut Hill struggled on offense,  recording just 51 yards of total offense. Defensively Elizabeth Lumpkin had five tackles and Croteau had one interception.
The women's flag football team returns to action on Saturday, March 14, 2026 for their first home games, hosting Marywood University and Marymount University with the first game at 11:00 a.m. and the second at 2:00 p.m.
